Turns 22 in November… still time to develop

Anyone sold on keeping him or cashing in while we can?
I just fear him being another kaut

  2. UncleDaddy0

Yeah I mean, he is a prospect who doesn’t hold much trade value. Has potential and may come out of his shell. Time will tell. He’s not an NHLer yet and that’s fine.

  3. KennyKettermen

It’s so frustrating how we are completely incapable of developing any prospects. Is it we just keep picking the wrong guys? Just don’t develop them well? Both?

  4. Lillehammered

He’s played basically one full season since juniors. Hard to tell with guys like this. Being plagued with injuries can completely hinder your development. Let’s see what he can do if/when he gets 100% healthy.

People need to not quit on a 21 year old, first and foremost

Secondly he needs to improve his defence play and awareness better. At the moment he can’t be a top 6 guy, but his tool kit isn’t suited to a bottom 6. If he improves his defence, awareness, and physicality, hopefully with his size and shot he can be a 3rd liner some day

Kind of like a Tolvanen or Sprong, that can be a depth option who can score 15-20 goals

HE IS 21. I SWEAR TO GOD IF PEOPLE ARE ALREADY DONE WITH HIM.

I’ve hardly watched him but from what I remember, he’s OK with the puck. It’s the off puck stuff he needs A LOT of work

Ritchie is looking damn good so at least we got that going for us..

  9. D-Broncos

We need to see him healthy. If the Avs are to win at least one more cup they probably need 2 guys around this level to step up into the bottom 6

I think quite a few of our prospects could turn out better on worse teams, it’s just that we are in win now mode and bednar/front office have no patience that young guys need to develop

The problem isn’t that Olausson is only 21. It’s that hasn’t shown any progression since being drafted.

49 points (55GP) in the OHL is not good production for a D+1 year. Calum Ritchie, who coincidentally was Olausson’s teammate during OO’s only OHL season, put up similar production (45p, 65GP) as a 16-year-old. Olausson was 19 that season.

In the two AHL seasons since then, he hasn’t produced like a top-6 forward; he’s only scored 40 points in 102 games. The AHL isn’t an explosive league offensively, but that is still well below where he should be. If Olausson could put up a season similar to the on Josh Doan just had (46p in 62GP), the Avs might have something. But until that happens, it’s not like Colorado going to roll the dice and see if he puts it together at the next level (NHL). And right now, there’s no reason to believe that will happen.

I saw comments mentioning health being a factor. The AHL doesn’t play 82 game seasons, only 72. Of the 44 games Olausson has missed over the past two seasons, the majority were from a single injury – the shoulder surgery he had this past season. This isn’t a case of « injuries ruining him », or « he’s so talented, if only he could stay healthy ». He just hasn’t been good.

Being done may be too soon. But I think being worried about a guy who’s calling card is offense not producing well in the A is more than fair.

  13. kooziefloozy

He’s the second coming of Tyson Jost

  14. Dr-Wankenstein

He’s been injured a lot and hasn’t had an opportunity to break into the role he was billed as. He’s more of a skill guy with an obnoxiously good shot. Was listening to the dnvr guys this morning and kinda liked AJ/rudos take of slap him in on the second line with Drouin and Casey and tell that boy to shoooooot.

His numbers are higher because they use him as the sniper/trigger man on the pp down in the ahl. If there was ever a time to give him a shot it’s this season with the Landy/nuke situation. That’s my one gripe with the coaching staff is their refusal to play some of the younger guys over ahl vets. I’d much rather see Oskar than a brad hunt or *insert ahl plug and play guy here*

So, I hope he gets a good look in a role he’s suited for, because having him slotted in as a 3rd/4th line checking role ain’t it.

  15. We are at the AHL level as shown in the second picture, based on his stats he’ll probably stay there

  16. LocationZealousideal

Would like to see him fill the 2R spot till Val or Landy comes back
