Carolina, Boston and Washington are going to miss the playoffs in the east. Detroit, Ottawa and Pittsburgh make it. In the West, it's a blender; I have no idea whatsoever who makes it and who doesn't. If my life depended on it, I'd say Vancouver and Nashville fall out with the Blues and Utah making the playoffs.

Colorado 1st? Just because they have 2 guys (Mackinnon & Makar)? That's an awful lot of faith in a team that has been built to be incredibly small, soft and weak and pass really cute. The Avalanche are a regular season team now. The GM hasn't given them the pieces to be a playoff team. They lose one Nichushkin and the whole team, including those 2 stars, fall apart completely. Takes more than 2 guys to win it all (ask McDavid and Leon). Avalanche will be 3rd at best in the Central kind of like last year.

Ottawa has new ownership in place to start the season, a new GM, a new coach, and Staios has cleaned up several messes leftover from Dorion. Plus, he also acquired Ullmark. All advance stats show that if Ottawa had over .900 save percentage last year, they would have made the playoffs. I know, I know, there were issues with the whole team last year (Pinto suspended 41 games for instance), but I really think if they make another move or two to get veteran D-Man and/or forward, I believe that they bill finish 10 ten or better in the East.
