  1. Think about paying William too much money what if he doesn’t have great seasons after the current ones

  2. Don't think we should have signed tavares in the first place. Personally I'd like to trade him at the deadline then see like a 3×4 mill or 4 Max after that but no more than more 4 mil

  3. I am a leafs fan, and I dont think he should be making anything more than $3, preferably like 2 or 1 in my opnion cause he's gonna be so bad in these next years.

  4. Bringing a aging declining Tavares back at anymore than 5 million aav is a huge over pay when likely be will play 3 c Domi makes 3.75 aav and can do all the same things and is younger.
With cowenq , minten pushing it make no sense

  5. Would love to see JT stay in in Toronto and stay as captain but he’s gotta help the team out he’s only got a few more shots at getting a ring before retirement sign a super team friendly deal 3 million for 3 or 4 seasons leafs get rid of marner and give it another go🤞

  6. Points wise Tavares puts up enough points to be a number one center on many teams if you look at years before last one. He had some bad luck this year but he is essentially a point per game center. Look at how many of those there are in the NHL. The answer is 17 last year. Last year Tavares was top 50 in points per game among centers. His shot % luck was down though. Age wise this is not guaranteed to continue although Tavares takes care of his nutrition and health probably better than most NHL players. He has always been a slower player. He is probably worth $7 million on a short term deal. But he is probably not worth that on a 3+ year deal—there can be arguments pro and con. Based on last season alone his AAV could be argued down further than $7 million as he was scoring rate was among the weaker 2nd line centers. This year we will see if he returns to his standard or continues to decline.

Stamkos was a point per game center (sure… he played wing mostly) who signed a $8 million x 4 year deal on open market. He is the reasonable comparable although Tavares will likely take a discount to return with Leafs. If he hits FA he would likely get a deal close to Stamkos but it depends on his year. Top centers are hard to get in free agency.

  7. All leafs fans and media talk about are how this core needs to be broken up because its not working, its needs to be blown up, but hey lets resign JT to 7.5m because its JT. How about you dont sign JT for 7.5m and give it to someone else because it clearly isnt working. You are the Leafs, they think that everyone wants to play for that organization if there was cap space. Well there is potentially 7.5m in cap space and instead of trying to maybe get another player to change things up, they want to keep the status quo because of "loyalty". Look at Vegas, sure what they did to their players are crappy by showing no loyalty but damn do they know how to run a hockey club, if it makes the team better they will pull the trigger.
Heres a thought, Drisatile is coming up at the end of the year, why not use that 7.5m clear up a bit more space and go after him maybe?
