It’s not smoke. It’s fire at this point. I mentioned it before calling it that Cutter Gauthier would never play here. Something is obviously wrong in the evaluation and developing of talent somewhere in our pipeline.

Hopefully he ends up in the right place for him, either adjusting and finding a certain level of comfort in North America or returning to the homeland he wants to be in. But he is under contract so that makes it weird. If Michkov was released from his contract on compassionate grounds, maybe it would be a way to stay in the good graces of the KHL to do the same for Kolosov (although they played for different clubs).

Worth noting the Flyers can loan him and even if they terminate his contract they have his rights forever.

Also should note he’s a 22 year old who never played for a team outside his home city in a culture radically different from his own without a lot of help.

If he goes back to the K this isn’t the end of the world and it may not even be the end of him with the Flyers.

  4. to give my piece on this I think it’s a series of unfortunate events, cutter situation was an anomaly situation that should never happen with a prospect unless they have princess syndrome

Kolosov being homesick given his situation in Allentown is more than understandable especially considering from what I’ve read he doesn’t have any peers on the Farm

I know this is going to be another bad look for Briere in the eyes of some fans in the long run & it’s unfortunate, but I’m not placing any blame on him.

This seems to be a special case. We’ve had so many players from Europe coming over and I haven’t heard about anyone potentially terminating their contract because of homesickness. But it seems like he has certain needs that was not met when he first came over, and that might not even be the Flyers fault. Hopefully they can find out about what he needs in order to stay here and that they can make that happen. We need to find out if this kid has a future in goal for us!

I mean we didn’t really play him much when he came over, so for him it was a lot of sitting around in a place nothing like his home. So I get it, hopefully he comes back when he’s ready to walk right into the NHL

This type of situation kind of justifies the comments that come out of the KHL about how they don’t want to hold young players back from the NHL… but rather prevent them from going to another country just to play in a lower league (AHL) and that they prefer their players make the jump when they are fully cooked.

Because it sure seems like Kolosov’s weighing the pros and cons and feels developing at home is a sweeter deal than Allentown, even if playing in the A would seemingly benefit his North American game more.

I don’t know the guy, or how he’s feeling but I think the “lack of playing time” angle is overblown, and Appleyard is (surprisingly)wrong.

Kolosov played in 2 of the 9 remaining regular season games after coming over, and was the backup in each of the Phantoms playoff games. That all came during a playoff run and Kolosov adjusting to AHL hockey. He was clearly the backup and I’d have to imagine, was promised a split role, at minimum, with the Phantoms to start next season.

Sucks but understandable why a guy from russia wouldn’t love life in Allentown. They really didn’t bring in any players or coaches to help support him? Seems like something worth doing

Man, just once why can’t we have nice things for a couple months. Finally get some luck w/Michkov then Kolosov doesn’t wanna come now. Hopefully it’s just his first time leaving home & with a little more time he’ll be okay to come. Such a fun, good prospect.

i don’t think he’s homesick i think he’s not happy being in the ahl.

The KHL is not exclusively a Russian league and Kolosov is Belarusian and played for a Belarusian team.

Doesn’t he also have a young family? a kid?
