  1. I'm a big believer in "learning how to win." As a group, this team has the talent and the team make-up to win right now. The only thing that gives me pause is that Jack Hughes, Bratt, Hischier, and Luke – probably their most talented guys – have very little playoff experience. And they only have one or two guys among their vets, if I'm not mistaken, who has actually won it – Palat. And Jake Allen as a backup in St. Louis.

On the bright side, yes, they did have 22-23 and the playoff win vs the Rangers. And I think 23-24 counts as a learning experience in itself. I believe it didn't take Pittsburgh very long after they got Crosby, though they lost in the finals too. Florida is another good example. A president's trophy. A trip to the finals. And THEN they won. It's also why Edmonton is getting picked for 24-25. They're on that same kind of track. McDavid is going to be possessed this year. I think Jack Hughes can be the type of player who carries a team in a similar way.

Also, there are always surprises but I see the Eastern conference as pretty weak at the moment. A trip to the finals this year and lose to Edmonton? I'd sign up for it.

  2. As a minimum, I want us to be Metro Div Champs. I think the team is capable this year. I am really eager to see our guys demolish teams like Washington, Colombus, Phily, and the Islanders. The hated blues across the river are a problem, of course, but I am hopeful that we are going to get them this time.

  3. Barring injury, the sky is the limit this season. Keefe should get this offense humming. Will be very interested to see how the bottom six is deployed and the forecheck impact it will have in games.

  4. 2025: Making it to the Conference finals minimum.
2026: Devils face the Stars or McSmythe for the Stanley Cup

No way New York has 6% better chances than us. Their best chance was the last two years and they blew it.

  5. This is just a bunch of Athletic writer's opinions, so whatever it's people with an option and etc etc. It is a little offensive(lol) that they put NJ in a category with VAN, who locked some guys up long term but I am not convinced have gotten any better, to win it– but hell yea I will take a cup final and totally see the argument that EDM and DAL have the best chance to win with all the playoff experience they have vs NJD over the last several years. My biggest wants with NJ is to be hungry and stay healthy. Hopefully whatever issues Fitz had with how the players were conducting themselves from a professional standpoint won't be an issue under Keefe and Jack's shoulder doesn't become a chronic problem for him.

  6. The 23 and under club will dictate our season more than anything. I really believe that. Jack, Dawson, Luke, and Simon's performance level will either be our flaw or let us fly. Can't wait to watch it play out.
