For 975k, this is a smart gamble. Canucks forward group is defensively sound, so we don’t need him to be Kesler. But he can score and coming off 2 back-to-back 40+ seasons who can play on the powerplay. If anything, he’ll push guys like Hoglander to earn that top 6 spot, but I can see Sprong play alongside Ep40 and DeBrusk. A right-handed shot is a warm welcome.

Hot take, this guy is our 3rd pair puck moving DMan. Like not actually but stick this guy out with a couple of the big trees on O-Zone starts, with a good faceoff guy like Bluegar and watch him snipe some.
That goes wrong we collapse back laying some hits with Sherwood or Podz and the aforementioned trees.
Let’s get used to the idea we are now a good team defence team. We can cover for him. Detroit didn’t have that. Seattle his prior team did and he’s a +13 there.

With Tocchets system, Sprong should be able to improve his stats defensively. Boeser is in the same realm as Sprong and I thought he played the most effective hockey in a very long time and he isn’t known to be a defensive savvy player either

At 975k, he’s essentially a PTO but the Nucks were worried he might go somewhere else before training camp.
