Yes 30 and 40 are the strong point of isles yet 40 outplayed 30 at times last season so roy has to get 30 back on track and earning his $8.2 mill. No team relies on its goalies more than isles do and knowing 30, 40 have to be near perfect every game to win puts a lot of pressure on isle goalies as d gets older and scoring remains sporadic. Probably the best duo in nhl.
And game one of '80 finals was very important as isles got the 6-5 win and game one in the spectrum as potvin scored in ot on the pp. Flyers were tuff in spectrum in those days and handled isles in games 2 and 5 in spectrum. Good thing isles won in six because had they lost game 6 in ot it would have been tuff to win cup in game 7 in philly. Philly had a record breaking season with best record and 35 game unbeaten streak. Most 'experts' gave isles no chance to win series. And isles beat 4 b's, 2 sabres, and top team flyers to win the cup. Thus the dynasty was born.

This is going to sound blasphemous, but I think the Islanders should trade Sorokin for an elite goal scorer. The Islanders have a lot of young goalies in their system who might be able to contribute and hold the fort. Why not do this.
Man I hope we can have a good year. We are gonna need Sorokin and Varly to steal more games for us. Sorokin was pretty bad, seemed every game he'd let in at least one soft one…sometimes two. Varly was good when he got consistent playing time. I like Roy, he actually cares about the game. Roy also knows how the game is supposed to be played. Mike Riley was a steal for us, there were many nights where he was our best defenseman. So glad Aho is gone, he was so bad in the DZone…like a carebear out there. At the end of the day we need our best player(s) (Sorokin/Varly) to be our best player(s). Go Isles!
Luckily our Goal tending has kept us in the Game over the last couple of seasons, Sorokin will get back to his form And Varlamov just seems to always come through great show thank you Gil !!!
Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? The Islanders have the best goalie tandem in The NHL. Ilya Sorokin didn't have a good season; however, he did finish in the Top 10. It wasn't all his fault, the defense collapsed on him, and he did play hurt. Simeon Varlamov, 36 years old, he came through in the clutch when the team was pushing to make the playoffs, and he had Sorokin's back. So far, The Islanders are right up there with Boston, Nashville, and Winnipeg for the Top 10 goalie tandem. Those dreaded Rangers are in consideration. May 13, 1980, The Islanders finally made the Finals against The Flyers at The Spectrum,. If The Islanders were nervous as 🐈, they hid it well. Boss and Trots combined for the first goal for The Islanders, Denis Potvin scored the game in OT, AND THE REST AS THEY SAY IS HISTORY. HAPPY 🎂, ROBIN LEINER. This whole team is going to play at a high level this year, because Patty isn’t taking any crap. I think the players don’t want to be in Patty’s crosshairs. These players trained harder no one wants Patty’s attention.
Patty is lighting a fire underneath this team’s collective butts, he has ultimate say on who stays and who goes. I expect this team to get over 110 pts. He will squeeze out everything this roster has.
