Is the only reason to compare them the fact that they're both Russian forwards? From what I've seen/read, they don't have particularly similar playstyles so it seems difficult to directly compare them. I'd rather compare players who are stylistically similar.

Michkov had one of the greatest seasons in as an 18 yr old in KHL history while Demidov was playing against boys , there's no comparison Michkov is projected to be the next kucherov.
Everything is relative and works out perfectly IMO:
Michkov didn't want to be with the HABS, and Demidov did. Each player is where he is supposed to be.
Player development will tell the tale in the end.
It should be a good competition.
I prefer Demidov's playstyle. More focussed on an making a play and more sophisticated. Michkov is explosive and agile, but when he's up against big experienced defense in the NHL it won't be as effective as making good passes.
The answer is Demidov, makes others around him better, positive attitude and better stick work. Michkov just there to make himself better
The missing category is mental attitude. Scouts see Michkov as a player who is prone to give up on plays when not in attack mode and cherry pick instead of busting his hump to get back to help in his own zone. Button and MacKenzie both mentioned that as the reason Michkov dropped. Add in he isn't ready to commit to improving that part of his game and intimated he wants a guarantee of first line minutes. We shall see in 2-3 years or less, it will be fun to watch.

Demidov has a very solid shot but Michkov's is elite. They both have elite IQ. They both have mid skating. Everything else goes to Demidov.

He dominated the mhl which is great but michkov dominated the mhl to a similar pace as a 16/17 year old as Demidov as a 17/18 year old. Both are fantastic but michkov is the better one

I think Michkov has more chances of succeeding in the NHL, simply because the type of goals he scores look more like NHL type of plays. He can hypnotize a goalie with minimal effort and can capitalize on every micro opportunity. Demidov needs to work more to score. And his most problematic habit is to stop moving his feet and rely on gliding when making plays. Elite players do not stop skating and are always shifting or building up speed. Demidov will have to learn to do the same plays he does while not stopping to move his feet. If he isn't able to achieve this, he will stagnate and become predictable.
