  1. If they can lock Knies up at $5M long term that would be a really good contract. The problem with the Leafs in the past, especially under Dubas, is that they waited until the player was at the maximum value before signing the player, and this cost them a lot of money in the long run. If they can lock him up for 5+ years that would be great, and would correspond with Matthews and Nylander's contracts.

  2. They MUST LOCK HIM UP NOW … 5 yr. Minimum contract… he will turn into a BEAST ….

  3. I’d be careful with him. Nothing too long or too expensive. He won’t do good on the first line. After the first 15 games he’ll be playing on the second line. I’d give him 5×4.

  4. He a must extend player in my opinion, I don't even think we've seen anywhere near what this kid is going to be in the NHL! Lock him up now while he's still cheap, cause like you both said, if we wait he will become very costly!

  5. This guy is a must and is just hitting his stride. A no brainer to not sign him. But that said this leaf management is the model for a no brainer.

  6. Knies is not a prototypical power forward – has size and heavy enough, but not a hitter or fighter. Solid though and will get you 20G, 25A playing on a top 2 line – $4-$5 Mil seems reasonable.

  7. 8 yrs 5 yrs Bridge deal. All for naught. Knies will look at the numbers and base his decision on what suits him best.
The existing environment puts all the power in the players hands.
Toronto will have to look at a hybrid contract where it becomes renegotiable based on the numbers Knies puts up.
He really has leverage but if the team wants to keep him they will have to keep him happy.
