  1. Ranking the cups id put..
2022 at 3rd as it was awesome personally as I wasn't around until 02. So this was the first time i saw them win. but i personally dont think the storyline was as interesting compared to the others that i couldn't experience.

2.) 1996 people doubted sakic could win back then and I still think its impressive that they won their first year here. Plus they started one of the best rivalries with the red wings that year as well.

1.) Would be 2001 because its kind of the exact opposite of 96 because in 96 they made enemies along the way with detriot and then they won with the friends they made along the way with Ray Bourque in 01. And in my opinion that moment cemented them as hockey royalty in my mind. Especially given that we see that moment every year.

  2. Hi Guys, I'll limit myself to 3 Avs moments in recent memory:

    1. 7-0 against Tampa, 2nd game, Finals, 2022. A huge sigh of relief with the Avs proving they are in the Finals for the win. And what a great game in its own right.

    2. "Game 82" in 2018. No comment necessary.

    3. April the 8th, 2022. The first Locked on Avalanche episode I watched. Yes, I was 500 episodes late to the party, but haven't missed a single one ever since 😊 And you also mentioned great Avs moments back then…

Love you Guys, and I hope the Avs provide us soon with moments that will throw our Top 3 lists into disarray 😉

  3. 1. 1996

    2. 2022

    3. 2001

1.December 6 1995 Colorado acquires Goaltender PATRICK ROY (The G.O.A.T.)

    2. October 26 1995 Colorado acquires Defenseman Sandice Ozolinsh

    3. March 6 2000 Colorado acquires Defenseman Raymond Bourque

    1. May 1995, Quebec Nordiques relocate to Denver

    2. March 3rd 1999 Avs score 7 goals Down 5-0 Won game 7-5

    3. The Moment Sakic handed the Cup to Raymond Bourque

  4. To this day, I can not think about or see Raymond Bourque receive the Cup without getting emotional, you want to see a grown man cry, talk to me about that moment, breaks me every time

  5. 2001, President Trophy, All-Star game in Denver, Colorado faces the old Colorado Rockies team who were the defending champs, and it goes to game 7 in Denver were both teams had played, that season was freakishly perfect

  6. My all time favorite moment is when I was living in Columbus; my wife splurged for glass seats behind the Avs bench. It turned out to be Foppa’s return and final game. I sat right behind him all game. It’s a bitter sweet end, but I felt like I was part of it.

  7. I'm in my 70's and my top moment was game 7 of the 2001 cup finals against NJ, and without Forsberg. It's also my top sports moment ever and I have been watching sports a long time.

  8. Thank you for such a fun episode! A nice antidote to "what do we have to be worried about." (Which is totally legit as a topic of conversation, but obviously a downer)
Cups – my ranks are in order of what I think are importance, not necessarily personal enjoyment. I was an adult for all of these and remember them all vividly.

    1. 1996 – first Denver championship was a massive boon to the city. The birth of hockey in Denver. Who knows if it would have taken off like it did if they hadn't come in and immediately acquired a rabid fanbase? I never watched a game in my life until the Chicago series. I was reading the rules from the "H" encyclopedia because Google didn't exist yet. 😂 I have been a huge fan ever since.
    2. 2001 – Forsberg might've died after the Kings series. (!) My boy Tanguay with the game winning game 7 goal. The handoff to Ray Bourque cementing Sakic as one of the classiest men in all of sports and making a highlight hockey moment for generations to come.
    3. 2022 – after so many years of struggle, I might have actually enjoyed this one the most. I was in tears for sure. EJ having his Bourque moment – and Landy too. Nate "finally f!king won something." A new generation of players gets the gold.

    Moments:
    1. Helm game winner in game 6. Five seconds to go. Literally could not believe what I had just seen. I think we all screamed "OH MY GOD!" about 47 times.
    2. Game 82. Emotions and emotions.
    3. Roy declaring that not one more rat would come down on that ice. And they did not.

    Trades:
    1. Roy
    2. Blake
    3. Kadri

Here's a question. Each of the Cup winning seasons, the Avs had someone on the roster everyone else in the NHL hated – Lemieux and Kadri. Is that what we're missing? A bad guy?

  9. I go way back to the before times. I remember 96 like it was yesterday. Can't find my damned car keys but I remember that SCF. My brother had the funniest comment on that – "It was rough. We had to endure a six month SCF drought back then".
Oh, game four vs the Panthers was a late, late, late night. 3OT, Uwe Krupp, unassisted. Wide awake for the whole thing.
This is easily #1 for me.
    So are the other two.
    I'm complicated like that.

  10. Acquisition: Roy, a/k/a The Wall. Remembering a radio call, too, where the announcer 'slipped' and said "Saved by Wahll" instead of "Saved by Roy".
Moment: Kadri's magnificent hat trick after all that [censored] going on before, so sweet that was. Getting misty-eyed just thinking about that. Thanks Shaggy.
Another moment: Super Joe quickly turning 180° to face someone about to check him into the boards, with this "oh, you wanna go, huh?" look.
Another lotta moments: Nate skating 200' to a goal, making it look like it was somehow a penalty shot, so fast they should have used that puck trail technology to show where the HELL HE WAS.

  11. Top 3 moments:
    3) Landy getting to the bench in game 6 with his blade busted
    2) game 7 devils: fakes it, takes it, score!
    1) joe handing the cup to ray

Honorable mention: even though it isn’t on the ice, the 96 parade “we’re now a city of champions!”

  12. The three biggest trade in franchise history is 3. Matt Duchene 2. Patrick Roy and 1. Peter Forsberg/lindros trade.

  13. 1-Same as Shaggy. Getting to experience a Cup win with my kids, especially my son. In April 2020 we were looking for activities at home. I pulled out my old roller hockey gear and introduced hockey to my kids. My son really took to it. In April if 2022 I took my son, for his 10th birthday, to both of ours' first home game. The game was against Washington, and I was so emotional seeing those banners in the rafters. We're from South Mississippi, so it's not an easy trip to Denver!!!
2-In October 2000 against Washington, Patrick Roy broke Terry Sawchuck's record for wins. Later that season, in January 2001, I met Roy in Nashville as the team was leaving their hotel. He signed the photo that commemorated that night in Washington.
3-The interview in 1996 when Patrick Roy was asked about Jeremy Roenick's comments. This was during the second round of the playoffs. Patrick Roy answered, "I can't really hear what Jeremy is saying because I got my Stanley Cup rings plugging my ears".
