  1. That's good news to be honest because at this point, the only place they can go is up. How many years were they favoured to be far better than their results showed? I hope they remain an underdog, and prove people wrong.

  2. Leafs got better in defence and goaltending this season and weaker on offence. How could they be worse than last season

  3. D'uh of Course. Here is a team that has won one series in nine years. They are getting worse and despite the fact that everyone knows what the problem is Leaf's management has obstinately refused to address those problems.
This isn't ultimately a condemnation of the team. The team is good. It's a condemnation of their refusal to try to fix the roster problems that have dogged them since they signed Tavares .
The team will be worse next year. If for instance Auston Matthews gets hurt for a long time or Woll doesn't pan out , this team could miss the playoffs. The line-up is too thin. The fact that treliving is new is no excuse. Ownership is trying to buy more time by replacing the coach and the GM. The problem is the construction of the roster. 63% of their money spent on five guys four forwards and one okay defenseman. One of the four forwards is aging out.
I don't care how many goals Auston Matthews scores. The list you are looking at Bossy (4 Stanley Cups) Gretzky (4 Stanley Cups) Mario Lemieux (2 Stanley Cups) Steve Yzerman ( 3 Stanley Cups), It's Dale Hawerchuk There is no Dave Hawerchuk. He didn't win a cup so you guys 25 years later don't even know his name. That's likely to be poor old Aaron Matthews fate. Twenty five years after he retires no one will know who he was.
If Auston Matthews is your vision of the greatest Maple Leaf of all time that is symptomatic of it's own problem.
Yzerman didn't win a cup until he was 31 but he had a great team around him. There is time for Matthews but they have to fix this team. They have to want to fix this team.
That first detroit team had sergei fedorov, brendan shanahan, vyachesalv kozlov, Martin Lapointe, Igor Larionov, Larry Murphy, Nick Lidstrom, Fetisov , Konstantinov, McCarty and Draper. This Toronto team has a chance to match this detroit team in goal (they had vernon and osgood) but nowhere else.
For Matthews to win the Leafs have to build a better team around him.
To have a chance to win=better team.

Teeder Kennedy won five stanley Cups with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Red Kelly won four with Detroit and four with Toronto in a 20 year NHL career. George Armstrong won four cups as a leaf. Tim Horton won four cups as a Leaf. Dave Keon won four cups as a Leaf. Syl Apps won three cups. Turk Broda won five.

  4. Can we just wait and see how the first two weeks go. When the season starts. Im happy with what the leafs management has done. Ppl just need to relax

  5. I haven't been too impressed by the Leafs front office for nearly sixty years….give or take a few short stints. But geez 30th? At least the Leafs make the playoffs consistently. Leafs front office…..a middling grade.

  6. I don't see how this roster is better How ffs ?
Defence is weeker far as I'm concerned and who do we have in forwards that play heavy especially if they make the playoffs, goaltending is questionable.

  7. I can't blame the current management team because they weren't here at the root of when these problems started. Dubas gave Matthews, Marner and Nylander too much power/money before they even earned it. They received more money than they were worth at the time and gave them no movement clauses when they didn't deserve it. I feel the draft picks that were used to acquire talent at the deadlines each year were underwhelming to say the least. And now the current regime has to clean up the mess that Dubas left. The Tavares deal was brutal because as great of a player he has been for us, he's not 11 million per year great and this is what has caused the depth scoring to suffer.

  8. They started wrong by hiring Shanahan who brought us Dubas as the GM over Lou and Mark Hunter huge L’s. Then they brought in rookie coach Keefe who wasn’t any good as he was out coached EVERY playoffs. When they lost to Montreal that was a huge sign this team was going downhill. Now they have these overpaid players and they still have Morgan Reilly who they’ve overpaid and he’s not even a top pair Dman yet they act like he is and that’s a joke. They should have built a better team from a top goalie game breaker and then defense and last the forwards. Who thinks the Leafs will get past round 1.

  9. ..somebody gave half the allowed dollars to 4 forwards who would rather not go in the corners….8 years later..somecody gave half the money to the same 4…and hired the guy who set the Flames on fire to fix it…pretty hard to lipstick that pig..

  10. I've seen a story / clip, where Matthews, has stated… if things don't change, he'll consider leaving.
    Any truth to this?
Have you guys heard anything or something to this effect?

  11. If we don't make the 2nd next year…Shanny HAS to go…absolutely no defense for that…Matthews needs to be the Captain…JT has been a bust…he is a zombie out there…show me you give a fack and have some emotion…it's OK to be human and not a freaking robot…it's Matthews time.

  12. Matthew's in top list of goal scores yet marner or Matthew's not in top ten or top 20. Heck, not in top 50 plays of year. Montreal biest media loves out there
