…I’ve no idea how but shared the wrong article earlier. This is the one I meant to share!

  2. I heard Nick Lindstrom and Chris Pronger are out of contracts

When I see names like Marino/Petersson, they are obviously contemporary defenders that offer good value.

That said, I do wonder if it throws a wrench in their defensive makeup when it’s not Hughes/Hronek + 4 Redwoods.

I want all the Petterssons in the league.

I kinda like how Myers was consistently ahead of Soucy in usage the majority of the year and even more so at the end of the season but he gets put in the bottom 3 category and Soucy is somehow not only leapfrogged him but also placed in a higher tier.

The OEL buyout is unfortunate and greatly complicates the following, but I really think they need to prioritize a defender with at least one year remaining on their deal after this season:

    1) I am assuming that the next 2 seasons (maybe 3) are key to this core’s window, given Miller’s age and Hughes/Demko’s contracts.

    2) With another top 4 defender and a strong middle 6 centreman/winger as insurance (think Adam Henrique), the team is a clear cup contender.

    3) I am assuming that this and next year’s top draft picks are as good as spent for win-now trades in these upcoming two seasons.

    4) I don’t trust Myers as a top 4 option for all of this season and next. As well, I think it’s unrealistic to expect Willander to be a top 4 option on a cup-aspirational team within these two years.

Taken together, I can see the appeal of the team trying to land someone with a bit of term – let a first round pick get you at least 2 runs out of a player. And then following trades for a Henrique-like player can be done as rentals as needed, since the forward group has more depth and a middle insurance C should be a bit easier to find. Basically they need to stretch their limited trade/draft capital, rather than need to land one really high end piece.

Harman also mentioned Cam Fowler on the podcast and that is an intriguing name. 2 years left at 6.5mil so we would want some retention for sure. I’ll admit I haven’t watched much of Anaheim in recent years but he has long been a steady two way dman. A left side of Hughes, Fowler, and Soucy could look nice for a couple seasons.
