  1. Side note about the Devils playoff streak, it was one hiccup that ruined it. From. 1990-2010 they made the playoffs every single season except 1996 (damn Senators). So 18 playoff appearances in 19 seasons (not counting the lockout in 04) is pretty damn good.

  2. my parents got married the day they won their first stanley cup. heard the after party was pretty fun since most people there were devil fans.

  3. It'd be funny to make an alumni team out of that "He was a Devil?" cast. It'd have NJ fans scratching their heads.

  4. Martin Brodeur for sure with Scott Stevens and Scott Niedermayer. Forwards like Bobby Holik and Patrik Elias. Another player not mentioned I liked was Mike Peluso for a tough guy. He was emotional in the final seconds before clinching the 1995 Stanley Cup. Lastly nice to see Pat Burns get a ring in 2003. Best Devils we're during the mid 1990s and early 2000s.

  5. Special shoutout to Sergei Brylin – only Devil besides Brodeur, Stevens Niedermayer and Daneyko to be on all 3 cup winning teams!

Most Devils fans would agree about 2001 being their favorite team. Elias and Mogilny both had elite 40+ goal seasons. Sykora put up 35 goals and 80 points. Guys like Brylin, Arnott, McKay, and Madden all scored 20 goals. Gomez had a great 60+ point sophomore year. (I think the other guys forwards success made Holik leaving in a year easier to swallow)
Rafalski had a 50+ point second year, not to mention having Stevens, Niedermayer, Daneyko and Colin White round out the defense in front of Brodeur (who had a 42 win season).

Devils had a lot of high profile rental players in those 90s/00s years when they were dominating the regular season but couldn't crack deep playoff runs: Larianov, Gilmour, Housley while Dave Andrecyuk and Petr Stasny stuck around a little longer. Nieuwendyk, Broten and Mogilny had brief tenures but actually won the cup in NJ.

Holik wasn't the only high profile Devil who made the multi-million dollar jump to the Rangers only to not find career success: John MacLean played 900 games with NJ and was a fan favorite who probably would have had his number retired if he did not cross the river as well. Scott Gomez is another famous one whose career took a downturn. Patrik Elias almost did as well.

  6. Jaques was an incredible coach. It was amazing how good the team became after Johnny Mac got fired and Lemaire took over. They got close to making the playoffs. Sadly they didn't make the move to move on from MacLean earlier (I do understand that Lou is very loyal and MacLean was a great player and overall soldier for the organization).

Larry Robinson was a fantastic coach as well and helped the Devils win in 2000. I know the story has been told a whole lot but him ripping the team a new one during the Flyers series lit such a spark in the team. Especially considering Robinson was a players coach and was very calm.

  7. It's such a shame Pat Burns passed away so young. He was a great guy and an amazing coach. Even before he came to the Devils he was amazing but he could never get that Stanley Cup until he came to New Jersey. If it wasn't for the health problems he possibly could have been the best the Devils ever had.

It's awful the NHL didn't put him into the HOF before his passing. He was going to get in and everyone knew his time was short and they didn't have the decency to give him that honor and let him experience it.

  8. "Daneyko was an absolute legend among New Jersey fans"

IS an absolute legend among New Jersey fans, sir. IS.

  9. What a great run for the Devils there from the 90s to 00s. It's harder to do that nowadays

  10. Devils fans absoutly love Chico, he was the color guy on our broadcasts for a while (does radio now) and when he was apart of the TV team he served as the emergency backup goalie for the team.

  11. My top 3 Devils: 1) Brodeur, 2) Scott Stevens, 3) Elias

As always, I watch all your videos and like them 🙂

  12. Ken Daneyko is the all-time leader in games played for New Jersey Devils. He played his whole career in New Jersey. He should be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. 3 Stanley Cups.

  13. 01. Martin Brodeur
    02. Ken Daneyko
    03. Scott Stevens
    04. Patrick Elias
    05. Scott Niedermayer

  14. Funny story related to the Jack Hughes thing: there's a top prospect for the 2022 draft who is American, plays in the USNTDP, and is named Jack Hughes. But is completely unrelated to the Jack Hughes who the devils just drafted

  15. There are many Devils that I thought were great during their tenure that don't always get mentioned, Claude Lemieux, John Madden, Jamie Langdenbruner, Jason Arnott, and let's not forget the Goons Mike Peluso, Reid Simoson, Cam Janssen, and Krzystof Oliwa but one of my all time favorite Devils to play the game was Randy McKay. He was just a blue chip heart and soul type player who could do it all, skate, score, check and fight.

  16. Ken Daneyko 1283 games all played with New Jersey. I just watched the whole thing and heard you say it and point at it.

  17. I believe the 1993-94 Devils were the second best team in franchise history. Their only issue was timing. They finished second in points, scoring and goals against. Scott Stevens should have won the Norris Trophy that year. The playoffs were epic, including the seven gamer against Buffalo that included a four OT 1-0 game. Losing the first two against Boston and having Terreri
bail them out in Games 3 and 4. Unfortunately they couldn’t overcome the Rangers. I was at Game 6 and saw it all unfold. Best playoff series in any sport I have ever seen. They fought to the bitter end. The 1994 Devils set the stage for a bright future ahead.

  18. Joe Niewendyk won a cup with NJ too. I think he got his 500th goal or something with NJ as well.

  19. Forgot Rafalski, Dave Andreychuk and Alex Mogilny on the He was a Devil?.. both winning cups with us. Also for notable captains.. id have put Captain Clutch aka 2010's Captain America Brian Gionta over Langenbrunner.

  20. When Chico used to do the Devils TV broadcasts with Doc Emerick, he'd have a segment called "Chico Eats" in which he'd sample the food in every arena the Devils were playing in. New Jersey legend right there

  21. My All Time Devils Starting Six:
    Goal: Martin Brodeur
Defense: Scott Stevens – Scott Niedermayer
Forwards: Patrik Elias – Scott Gomez – John MacLean

  22. NEW JERSEY DEVILS IN THE HOCKEY HALL OF FAME

    1984: Jacques Lemaire
    1995: Larry Robinson
    1998: Peter Stastny
    2001: Viacheslav Fetisov
    2006: Herb Brooks
    2007: Scott Stevens
    2008: Igor Larionov
    2009: Lou Lamoriello
    2011: Joe Niewendyk
    2011: Doug Gilmour
    2013: Brendan Shanahan
    2013: Scott Niedermayer
    2014: Pat Burns
    2015: Phil Housley
    2017: Dave Andreychuk
    2018: Martin Brodeur

  23. Honorable mention for coach: Pat Burns. His coaching led the Devils to their last Stanley Cup victory in 2003 and left after the Lockout because he was diagnosed with cancer. He was such an underrated coach and I will always wonder what the Devils could have done after the lockout with him.

For context, here's a coaching breakdown for the Devils post lockout:
2005/2006: Larry Robinson and Lou Lamoriello (both temporary; not enough time to find a coach after Burns resigned in July)
2006/2007: Claude Julien (fired with 3 games left in the regular season, replaced by Lou. Rumor has it he was fired because he was too soft…)
2007-2009: Brent Sutter (fired mid 2009 season, replaced by Jacques Lemaire)
2010: John MaClean (we all remember how this turned out; replaced by Jacques Lemaire and quickly turned the season around and made the playoffs.)

Like I said, I will always wonder what could have been. Burns was a natural fit. I'm not saying he would have lasted until 2010 (Lou had a way of shuffling staff and players whenever he wanted), but I wonder what a post-lockout Devils team would have looked like had he have still had the ability to coach.

  24. Devils…first Soviet in Fetisov. First Hispanic in hockey in Guerin. First Alaskan Mexican in the NHL in Scott Gomez. Devils orginal owner, Dr John was also a legend & American hero being a USS Indianapolis survivor !

  25. No mention of Scott Gomez or Randy McKay? That Crash Line in '95 were lighting it up more than most 1st lines in the Playoffs that year with McKay scoring 8 goals. And Gomez' wicked passing skills on the Mogilny line got us 2 more Cups and almost 3

  26. i wasn’t watching hockey at this time but sykora was a pretty good player for them too right?
