There are a few factors that tend to get overlooked when people are getting impatient regarding Mercer's contract that I think really need to be considered. One, there's the nitpicky details that are going to go into a new deal for a player with potential but coming off a down year. This will be a bridge deal, most likely, and that is almost always a tougher contract to work out since you have to balance what is fair for what the player did in the previous season and what he is hopefully capable of.
Another huge factor is that his agent Pat Brisson, is the biggest NHL agent and has a LOT of players that he has to handle and work out contracts for, Crosby being one of them. Mercer is the biggest priority for us as Devils fans, but for Brisson, he's one of 43 clients that he is trying to get fair deals for and maintain all the other responsibilities he has as an agent. Not saying he would view Mercer as less important, but that Mercer isn't his sole focus. We just have to be patient and wait it out. I'm sure the deal will get done fairly soon since they will want it worked out before training camp.
I was there for Game 6 as well, Ace. Heartbreaking. Gomer scoring the opener before it was waved off gave the building that brief moment of jubilation – what could've been.

Great! Big body he can hit and have a good shot . He can score. Big power forward. Hopefully he can stay healthy
Yo, Ace! I totally agree that Fitz has bigger plans than the 4th line for Cotter. Hopefully, he can show the coaches that he has the speed and the smarts to be a top 6 winger. I would hope that we can get some consistency in the top 6 as that was lacking last year, for sure.
Not sure what they are gonna do with Mercer. He had a huge regress last season…but so did the other team. Factor in when you have a ton of injuries, which not only takes out your star players, but also kills the chemistry with the rest of the team, and I guess its a wonder anyone succeeded last season. Hoping for the best next season. I am taking my niece to the February 22 game against Dallas. My nieces' 5th birthday is next month…I am making her a hockey stick for a present out of wood. If she wanted to, she could actually play hockey with it.
Clearly we should use Dawson to acquire Igor Shesterkin.

I think he'll fit better in the top six then mercer. I know that's probably not a popular opinion. I think mercer is a better trade piece then anything at this point.
