  2. frankyseven

Gary Roberts was probably the only guy in the league that took training more seriously than Rod the Bod.

  3. JustAGuy910

I’m always late to the party on these but I love these posts.

  4. moutardebaseball

Carter Verhaeghe might be on that list someday

  5. NathanGa

    Honorable mention to Denis Savard.

The first training camp in 1992-93 also had both Tony McKegney and Ron Duguay, although neither stuck.

  6. HelRayzer12

Seems like Flames players really shouldn’t play for the Lightning. Lol

  7. Sarcastic__

3 1 and dones with Stanley Cup rings to show for it is fairly impressive for the Bolts.

  8. fredy31

Would but honorable mention to Manon Rhéaume, that played basically 1 period in a preseason game.

Only woman to have played in the nhl.

  9. Nebajense

I had no idea that Wendy Clark played for Tampa.

  10. smiledumb

Man, the 98 Caps got reverse swept by the Lightning after going up 2-0 on the road and both goalies eventually decided the grass was greener.

That playoff series was also what forced the firesale of Bondra, Jagr, Oates, Lang and Gonchar. It’s also what got us in pole position to drafting Ovi, so I’ll take it.

Edit: this was 2003, not 1998. This is what you get get for commenting after reminiscing after a few drinks. Stick tap to u/MOLightningBro

As a life long Bolts fan, a couple thoughts:

Cory Stillman was so damn good the year he was with the Bolts. He played an important role in winning their first cup. Rock solid forward.

Wendel Clark was the lone Lightning player to make the 1999 All Star Game, which was also in Tampa. He was our captain that year. The crowd went nuts when they introduced him onto the ice that weekend. I was at the skills competition and the game, I was only in grade school at the time but I remember it fondly.

  12. stuntman262626

Roberts in any other jersey besides a Leafs or Calgary is odd to me. It hasn’t stopped me collecting all his cards lol

  13. Hockeygoalie41

I had been a fan of Tanguay at earlier teams but even accounting for age his season here was the most diabolically lazy one I’ve ever seen.

Ellis and Niittymaki were one season Bolts as well, lots of goalies just passed through before Bishop held the spot for a while.

  14. 7_Bundy

Darryl Sydor, Mattias Ohlund, Sami Salo, Dino Ciccarelli, Dwayne Roloson, Matthew Barnaby, Mike Commodore

  15. fartswhenhappy

I thought Gerard Gallant was Steve Buscemi for a sec.

  16. Key-Tip-7521

The old Tampa Bay unis were nice

Oh and the hockey terrorist is in there….

  17. WalkingCarpet

Cory Stillman was a monster the one year we had him. IIRC he played on the second line with Brad Richards and Freddy Modin.

  18. LucasRaymondGOAT

Brendan Morrow was on a lot of teams.

  19. 4 former Caps on made the list, more than usual.

  20. colorbalances

When the hell did Nabokov play for Tampa that’s insane

  21. goat_balls_oh_yeah

Astonishing how many teams Sean Burke played on.

  22. Zanstorm74

Wendel Clark played there? No wayyyyyy

  23. TheTechManager

Gotta say, Tampa had some nice sweaters over the years..

  24. Spinal_Orangutan

Clark scored a hatty against the Wings on the lightning and then the Wings signed him the next year.

  25. GeckoMoria93

Tampa Bay Legend Nabokov thank you very much.

  26. Joisey_Toad32

Seeing Ranford makes me want to play NHL 99 and see what I can do with that default roster. 😅

  27. andrewthemexican

I COMPLETELY forgot about Kunitz in Tampa. From the long before times

  28. tomservo96

Kolzig in the Lightning uniform is just basically wrong. 771 games for the Caps over 16 years. 8 games for Tampa.

Pointless aside: Kolzig is the only NHL player to have been born in South Africa

  29. Crispiest_Relic

I forgot got about Nabokov being a Bolt. If I remember correctly they brought him with the idea he’d the veteran back up to give Vasy more time to develop. Then he played so poorly he was waived. seems like a life time ago.

  30. ass_smacktivist

Fucking forgot Nabby played for the Bolts. Feels like I’m looking at a photo from an alternate timeline.

  31. sasksasquatch

I have absolutely no recollection of Wendel Clark with the Lightning. Quebec, Detroit, Islanders, his second stint with the Leafs, I remember all of those. With the Lightning, nothing.

  32. whogivesashirtdotca

Almost as many *WHAT?!*s with this list as with St Louis. They’d face off for the Stanley Cup of weird short-termers.

  33. BvG_Venom

My brain can’t process Recchi and Marchessault ever playing for the Lightning. I know they both bounced around at the end/beginning of they’re careers but I had no idea they were in Tampa.

    Edit: can’t

  34. CookieMonsta94

The Wendel one is a cursed image.

  35. dumbthiccrick

I’ve immortalized the 2011 playoffs in my head so seeing players like Simon Gagne on here is funny

  36. GhostofFarnham

Amazed Ranford played so long as a true stand-up goalie, the last of his kind.

  37. MaddAddamOneZ

Rather surprised Dino Ciccarelli didn’t make this list.

  38. RickandMortyfan956

Chris Kunitz played for the Lightning????

  39. Everytime I see shatternkirk in one of these posts, I’m always amazed by how chin-less he is
