@Red Wings de Détroit

1. I'd be okay with the Wings retaining some salary in order to move Copp. Dunno if they'd find any takers though.

  2. Full season of Kane is the most exciting thing about this team other than tracking the ascension of Lucas Raymond

  3. Bergrenn – Larkin – Raymond
    Cat – Compher – Kane
    Ras – Copp – Teresenko
    Motte – Veleno – Fishcher

    Could happen.

  4. I have a good feeling about Tarasenko this season. I watch a lot of Panthers hockey and Tarasenko plays defense more than people think. This could because, he bought into Paul Maurice system but he can be somewhat of a two way player. Him and Kane going to be fun to watch. Let’s go Wings!

  5. Honestly tarasenko will have to play left side to get top 6 minutes. He will play 3rd line mainly but depending on the team Detroit plays he may slide on the second line on the left side.

  6. As for copp he will be used defensively again. I’m not expecting more offense from him. He’s overpaid but his role is 3rd line center and penalty kill. Win half the face offs and chip in here and there

  7. Copp has been used for more defensive situations and I can see him switching to the wing which should up his offensive production. For that to happen, Kasper or Danielson will have to make the team. If they make the team, then I expect Veleno or Berggren to be traded.

  8. Tarasenko would probably be more comfortable on the right side and we want more offense for Copp…hmmm…

Also don't see why Johansson can't earn a top 4 spot next to Edvinsson. Ed did it, and Aljo got as much praise as he did for his play in GR.

  9. I don't like how political Brian got in this episode. Left or right wing doesn't matter bro, I'm just trying to watch hockey

  10. if Lalonde screws Kane over again w the lineups to favor Raymond it will be one of the more shameful things in recent hockey history considering what Kane has done for the franchise this offseason, while Raymond basically holds out.

Kane Cat Larkin last year outscored opponents 14-6 in 152 minutes together. Raymond Cat Larkin last year outscored opponents 23-17 in 309 minutes together. do the math and the Kane version of that line is +16 or +17 in the same amount of icetime, instead of +6, with both significantly more goals scored and significantly fewer goals allowed. The Raymond version has slightly better Corsi (53.4% to 51.6%) but that is largely due to a horrific last game (out of only 11 total together) vs NYR for the Kane version bc of a bad d pair attached to them, plus the Raymond version being hot at the end vs inferior competition. The Kane version has a better shots for %, 55.1% to 51.7%.

The Kane version of that line is by far the best line the team had last year. It was also the top line the team had at its peak, in February. It got broken up three times – the first time bc Raymond was so far underwater and taking such huge minuses while producing nothing that Lalonde felt he had to bail him out w Larkin; the 2nd time bc Larkin got hurt and Lalonde when Larkin came back gave him to Raymond to "reward" Raymond's hot streak (which was at least 50% the product of Pat Kane passing on the power play), the 3rd time bc Lalonde intentionally sabotaged the Kane line vs NY by refusing to put them out w any other d pair but Walman Gostisbehere, even tho in limited action w every other d pair that game they were fine. Walman was so horrific in that game he wouldn't play again the rest of the year.

All year last year Lalonde looked for any slightest excuse to break that line up, not play that line, and give it to Raymond instead. He avoided even giving them any random shifts together if he could bc he knew they'd look good and create controversy. I remember the game at Nashville where they got one stray shift together after a power play, immediate grade fast break chance from Kane to Larkin. Never played another shift together the rest of that game, Nashville wins 1-0.

Kane has earned Larkin at center, and more importantly, he NEEDS Larkin at center. He cannot play with JT Compher. Kane is not a play driver or a puck digger outer.

If Kane is with Compher, he will not produce, and the 2nd line will not produce. And that will be a problem bc the team now has no scoring depth. And it doesn't matter even if Cat is the other wing. Cat Kane Compher played together extensively last year, they never clicked, they never got much better together. They are mismatched. Compher is not fast enough for them. They don't drive play or dig for pucks. They play pure offense. They require Larkin, of the team's center options, to activate them offensively. And with him the payoff is enormous – both become superstar producers at even strength.

Raymond is supposed to be a play driver. There are some others who can play w him and dig out pucks (and he can himself dig out pucks). He should, in theory, be able to drive his own line and succeed wo Larkin at center. Maybe not put up the same totals, but still produce if there is a quality winger w him such as Tarasenko or Cat (Kane does not necessarily require Cat, tho he should have Cat – he could also succeed imo w Tarasenko or Berggren at the other wing w Larkin centering).

The right lineup choice here is fairly obvious. The team will fail miserably if Kane Compher is a thing again. It will be a one line team.

Also btw – if Lalonde had used Kane Cat Larkin as the top line the last two games vs Washington, the team wins both easily and makes the playoffs. They beat them 8-3, like a rented mule, in Feb w that top line. Was a highlight reel from the whole team. Lalonde refused to use it vs them the last two times, and the season was lost. One more thing – one of the major problems last year w the lineup was Perron. Who at 5v5 was simply really horrible all year. But Lalonde refused to stop putting him in the top 6. So any time you got one of the mega lines as top line, whichever winger was left out would be stuck w Compher and Perron. this is a large part of why Raymond was so bad in December when Cat Kane Larkin were a line. Even after they gave him Larkin back, they kept Perron on as the other wing and the line was still terrible. Swapping Tarasenko in for Perron should change all this and enable them to safely play Raymond w neither Larkin nor Cat.

  11. everybody saying second line but he hasnt played second line minutes in years. Even Yzerman said "top six/top nine forward" regarding Tank. I like the signing but if he gets 18 minutes a night we are likely misusing him.
