  1. For the Oilers, the draft pick(s) are irrelevant. All that matters is whether Broberg is an upgrade over Ceci for a Cup run… And as we saw in the playoffs last year, unquestionably yes.

  2. Hollywood is much of and overpay so you keep him, Broberg for 4.5 just means that his name wont be on the cup this year. Spend the 4.5 on a better D preferably RD

  3. THG saying its Tuesday reminds me of the Simpsons where Homer says he loves these lazy saturdays. Only for Marge to tell him its wednesday 😂 then it cuts to him enjoying his lazy Saturday unlike that fake Saturday that almost got him fired

  4. It was reported the oilers could have signed their two players for $1.8M and $1.2M.
I would just signed them and got on with getting ready for the season.
    3M would have done it.
I saw some one comment that they wondered if the $3M that went to Skinner was originally to take care of the two rfa.

  5. Id be ok with Ceci and a second heading out, let Broberg go for the second and keep Holloway. I really dont understand why people think Armstrong was smart with this. He'll be paying Broberg 4 mil leaving 3 mil in cap space. Not to mention paying for an unproven dman just a mil less than a M. Roy.

  6. Dougie Hamilton only played 20 games last year. His return alone should make the Devils better defensively. Add the huge upgrade with two goalies, and Keefe starts way ahead of the guy he replaced.

  7. Oilers must keep Broberg. We cannot hand away a top 10 pick for a 2nd rounder after we developed him to this point.

  8. I understand that teams don't want to help the Oilers but Ceci and/or Kulak shouldn't need pick/s added to move them! A team can easily take them for "Future Considerations" and flip them at the TDL for picks. There has to be a team willing to take them for absolutely nothing.

  9. Broberg doesn't want to be there. Admittedly, the Oilers didn't handle his progression well floating him between nhl and ahl. He requested a trade part way through last season, then after he played 8 playoff games, went out searching for money. I can't fault the guy for being able to find $9 million more than he likely would have got in Edmonton over the next 2 years… but I don't want players who don't want to be in the room.

Knowing the Edmonton fan base, if we keep him and give him a huge chunk of cash (and have to lose some other assets) and he doesn't perform amazing week 1… he is going to be so hated on – and his mental is going to go down the tubes, leading to more bad play. Its a bit embarrassing how fast us Oilers fans turn on our players – but hey, I guess we are passionate.

IMO, let Broberg walk, take his 2nd round pick (and maybe still move an asset) to go get a 2nd pairing/3rd pairing Dman.

Holloway feels like the "eh, it's cheap enough let's keep him"… but we have other depth to fill his role / it's easier to find a 3rd line winger out there. I hope both guys get a nice set of golf clubs when they are watching the Oilers make another cup run next year without them.

  10. Blues fan here. I hope we at least get Broberg. If they clear cap space to keep both players, we would have done a hostile move for nothing. I think that might be what the Oilers do. Fall on the sword this time so offer sheets are less likely in the future. We get nothing out of it, but you're welcome western conference?

  11. Boy, Doug Armstrong and the Blues just tossed a big, nasty hand grenade right on Stan Bowman's desk didn't they?

  12. As an Oilers fan I wish they'd trade for a large LTIR contract (I had Carey Price in mind) and make the whole thing a moot point.

  13. I think Bromberg is going to be a really good defenseman but if he doesn’t want to be in Edmonton punt him. No teams need these ( I don’t want to play here babies)

  14. I’m an oiler fan and I would like to keep the whole team and we don’t have to trade anyone because Kane is going on ltir long term!

  15. The Flames don’t want the Oilers also rams. We don’t have Brad Treliving as the GM anymore, Stan Bowman will not pull the wool over Craig Conroy’s eyes.

  16. I would not give up a first or a second round pick to get rid of Ceci.
    IMO, that’s insane.
They definitely need an upgrade on their D, and the one thing really holding that up is the $$ being paid to Nurse.
It’s killing any chance to create that cap space needed to do the upgrade.
Broberg played really well in the playoffs, but I don’t think he’s worth $4.5M/yr. Not yet anyway.
They may have to let them both walk!

  17. I think Boston should Trade Marchand to San Jose to free up cash to give Swayman $10.5 million…Bobrovsky money 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂Go LeafsGo

  18. Keefe didn't coach the Leafs to a good defense, this is where looking at stats doesn't tell the story. Their offense is so good that they control the play it's not that the defense is good because they didn't allow a lot of goals it's the type of goals allowed and the defense not stepping up. They didn't allow a ton of shows but that is because they controlled the puck a lot and when they didn't the defense let them down. Maybe they can get away with some of that in NJ but their offense isn't the same as the Leafs, at least not yet.

With the Oilers that's kind of the going rate a 2nd or 1st to move 3.5m. Nashville just gave up a 3rd and 6th to MTL, his contract was 2.75m and he offers a lot more to MTL than Ceci or Kulak will to another team. Bottom pairing dman aren't hard to come by. STL had to give up a 2nd earlier t his summer to move Keven Hayes and his 3.5m but Hayes is a decent 3rd/4th line center who can win faceoffs. So yea a 2nd is about the going rate and now that teams know they are desperate it might cost a 2nd and 4th or something but the problem is they don't have a 2nd in next summers draft or a 1st for that matter so when you are talking about picks further out the value of them is lower.

  19. How do teams expect a 1st or 2nd round pick. Ceci and Kulak are solid defencemen on decent low risk contracts. If I were a bottom team I would take Ceci and trade him at the deadline for picks

  20. Like I get why the Blues made an offer to Broberg and Holloway, but if you look at their current top ten defenseman, you have six left-handed defensemen (excluding Krug on LTIR), so I don't think Doug Armstrong is done cooking just yet. There must be another deal in the making for St. Louis if they do land both players from Edmonton.

  21. Keep both, put Kane on LTIR when season starts and go with a 20-man roster until injuries pile up. Every year in training camp and preseason someone ALWAYS gets hurt who trained too hard or not enough in the off-season

  22. No matter what Edmonton does, they lose in some way, quite a brilliant move by St Louis.
