Martin Erat on the Caps was a mess. I remember how 12PM PST passed at the 2012 Trade Deadline and the various insiders were saying there was a deal with Nashville still to be announced. It was taking forever for details to leak and everyone naturally thought this was a Shea Weber deal.
Then we found out it was Erat, and that Filip Forsberg was taking a nap and unable to be reached to inform him the deal was done.
This was also the year Shea Weber signed an Offer Sheet. Some people were convinced there was something in the CBA that the general public wasn’t aware of that would allow Weber to be traded.

Also noticing that WSH edition is more modern than most of the others. Lots from the early 2010s as we were trying to figure out how to get that missing piece to put us ahead I. The playoffs.

I became a capitals fan because as a kid Sergei Fedorov was my favorite player in backyard hockey. When I found out he was in the Caps in 07 I decided to start following them. Didn’t even realize people thought of him as a Red Wing until I was in late high school.

Fun story: I was getting off the Metro in 2018 after watching the Caps lose to the Pens in game 5 when I saw a guy with a Caps Shattenkirk jersey. I asked him if he ever regretted it and he said something along the lines of « No, I’m different from all you losers wearing Ovi and Backie sweaters. »
I think about that guy more than I probably should.
