San Jose makes a ton of sense and he would immediately be *the* guy there. Canes acquiring him would be more of a luxury, but also insurance if they are concerned about Freddie’s health moving forward.

A tandem of Andersen, Kochetkov, Martin isn’t one exactly built for the future. And exploring the goalie market in season is a waste of time because no team wants to lose their competent goaltenders. Obviously I don’t think the team should sell the farm for him, but getting a young goalie who can tandem with Kochetkov and potentially be locked up long term at 22 sounds pretty good to me!

Don’t we already have a really solid Russian goalie prospect in the pipeline? I’m not sure what this would add.

Any prospect not named Nikishin should be available. I might add a 1st on top of that to get a deal done. At least a 2nd. Like Nadeau + 2nd for Askarov.
Nashville doesn’t have much Cap space which makes a Necas deal difficult. Maybe the Canes would retain.

I’m intrigued, but unless this means that Freddie gets shipped out as well, I’m not sure this makes sense. Askarov asked out of Nashville because there is no way he’s reporting to their AHL team, and we don’t have a spot for him here without either Kooch or Freddie moved.
Don’t get me wrong, I would absolutely love a Kooch-Askarov tandem with Khazheyev learning the ropes in Chicago, but I *really* don’t see how feasible that would be.

Askarov only comes to Carolina to be a full time NHLer, and realistically only with a clear and fairly immediate path to being the starter. Unless there’s a plan for deprioritizing Kochetkov and shipping out Andersen or something equivalent, I don’t see this fit…
