No surprise there.
Normally, I’m “hocktimistic” too, but it’s not all rose pedals under Trotz. The Preds have maxed out Cap-wise, spending on players that are a bit long in the tooth, and now having to give up young Glass and possibly a future elite NHL goaltender. The Preds should be strong for
a couple of seasons at least, and far beyond if the strong core of prospects develops as expected. But the Askarov situation is definitely a setback as it puts pressure on the team to trade him under circumstances that may not yield the best return. I hope he comes to his senses and gets back to work.
I get the Askarov hype, and it’s unfortunate that’s he’s gonna leave, but I haven’t been a fan of the way he conducts himself on the ice with the showboating and such. That just isn’t “Preds material”. It irked me with PK Subban, and Asky gives me similar vibes. I just hope we can get a good return from trading him away… and NOT to a divisional rival either!
The petty part of me says ice him out and see what he does from there. Would he want to go back to russia after already sitting on the bench there for one season already and with the chance of being drafted into a war? But in reality the team should just get rid of him for whatever they can. He has proven to be problematic on and off the ice at this point and isn't worth the headache with Juice locked down long term.

I agree 100% with your opinions about this situation. In addition we have to remember that a high caliber NHL proven goalie Kevin Lankinen is still unsigned. Think twice, Askarov, if you believe that any NHL team would rather sign you than Lankinen as a starter. Sure Askarov may have the higher ceiling of these two, but his route to reaching his full potential is much longer than the route for Lankinen.
Someone will want him….. However, he probably does need to back up for a season, and then take lead…. I get that Wedgewood signing puts him in the minors possibly for couple seasons but he could beat out wedgewood and make himself bigger….. this sounds childish, and more of the agent talking…. This makes him sound like he maybe another Russian diva and a team player….. radulov come to mind…. Lots of skill, but immaturity
I think the big thing is that he doesn't see a path to the starters net in the timeframe he wants. He probably wanted a trajectory that looked like Swayman where he takes over fully at 24/25. With Saros locked in for 8 years, he probably just doesn't see a clear path. Disappointing, but not surprising. Feels like the fallout of Trotz's direction decision for the team
My guess is Trotz was already shopping him. The timing of Asky and Juice was not close to ideal. I could see a top prospect coming back or a top pick, but nothing with cap considerations.
