  1. The Oilers didn’t have a lot of choice. They were way over the cap and this makes them cap compliant before the Kane contract goes on LTIR.

  2. 1st rd pick 5 years ago and only has 9 nhl goals?? I get that they have potential, but oilers need impact NOW. Holloway wasn't producing, and tbh Broberg is also unproven. He played well for 10 playoff games, does that translate to success at 20 mins a night for 70+ games?? It was riskier to sign them than to not sign them.

  3. After much discussion, I am okay with not matching either. With the ceci trade we are now cap compliant without Kane on LTIR allowing us to accrue cap space throughout the season. Gives us about 4.5-5M worth of money we can take in without sending money out. Emberson is a good Broberg replacement as he’s a natural RD and has good defensive metrics. Ceci is addition by subtraction and while podkolzin is no Holloway, we also have Lavoie or Savoie who could fill that role very soon

  4. Thing is at the deadline oilers could easily pair Kane a prospect a 2nd and 3rd pick they got from St. Louis for a top 4 defenceman

  5. I feel like the Oilers were never going to match the offers, but made the Ceci trade to show the Blues that they CAN match it. Then they asked the Blues for a bit more sweetener to let the players walk, which is why we see the "for future considerations" trade between the Blues and Oilers today.

  6. If you look at all of the deals the Oilers did because of this, they got worse as a result. They are still a Stanley Cup contenders, but they are not overwhelming favourites to win the Pacific.

  7. Stan Bowman already destroying this team. Guy was a complete hack to make GM and Oilers will be a bottom feeder in 3 years….

  8. I see Leon taking off if the Oilers cant win a cup this upcoming season. Then of course Mcdavid will follow suit. The window is very small here so they need to do it this year or the dismantling begins.

  9. Armstrong looks like an Evil Genius with this move. Put this next to the word “fleeced” in Webster’s Dictionary.

  10. This allows the Oilers to acrue cap space up to the deadline and be large buyers. This isnt horrible.

  11. I still wish the Blues wouldn't have done the secondary trade. Props to the Blues organization for showing Broberg and Holloway they really wanted their services in St. Louis by doing so.

  12. Broberg and Holloway were on a team one game away from the cup with every reason to believe they’d be on a strong contender this year. They gave that up for some short term money on a middling team. Not serious about winning. What would their value have been after a cup win?

  13. Mcdavid injury till playoffs…

Miraculously heals for game number ahhh one! They become the greatest team in the world and BOOM Stanleys cups champs believe! 😊

  14. You gotta think Holloways agent told him to sign the offer sheet thinking Edmonton would match. He’s getting more money but probably a little bummed he’s likely not competing for another deep cup run. Broberg woulda been absolutely stupid not to sign.

  15. Oilers basically thought they will get a proven defenseman for 4.5M! Holloway would have been an amazing winger with Draisaitl but I guess you can't have it all. At least not this year.

  16. This was a brilliant move by Army. You can bet Steen had a lot to say about Broberg as he has spent some years scouting in Sweden. The Blues were even magnanimous in victory by sending a little extra.

  17. How about you tip your cap to Doug Armstrong and the Blues for playing by the rules and coming away with two solid players that will contribute this coming season.
