Some pretty weird shit going on in the goalie department right now.

  2. Vancouver announces Ian Clark as backup goaltender for this season.

  3. Chipmunk-Adventurous

As long as he’s still with the team and will have his finger on the pulse of our goalie situation, I’m fine with it

Makes sense. Ian came here to spend more time with family and he did indicate he wanted to do less and less. Coaching and sports takes a toll on the family.

Maybe it’s more of an oversight and leadership role. As long as he’s still here in some capacity we should be happy.

  5. CanuckAddict94

Let’s hope it still means he can do his thing to make our goalies better.

Goalie academy style coaching staff? Like what Lu is doing in Florida?

  7. Skazzyskills

I hope he’s still whispering in our goalies’ ears.

  8. Had a panic attack because I read it as a role in another team

  9. I know that Ian Clarke is well regarded. But he’s been here since 2018, and it’s not like Vancouver has really developed any goalies outside of Demko during that time.

    *Googles Pittsburgh Penguins Goalie Coach*

So is he getting promoted to Goalie Emperor lol? He’s is still with the team so I am sure he will have input with the goalies regardless of what he is doing.

  11. wotan_clan

He needs to be our goalie Czar and oversee all aspects of the position: scouting, drafting, development and coaching

The goaltending coach we brought in for the AHL was quite well regarded right? Wonder if he’s being offered the role in place.

  13. phantomgiratina

I thought Clark left the organization for a second 😢

  14. KingInTheFarNorth

He’s graduating from training goalies to training other goalie coaches.

He’s gonna have the Belichick coaching tree of goalie coaches.

  15. MemeMeOnce

Being a Canucks fan is just hilarious cause there really is drama all 12 months of the year

  16. metrichustle

Wow gotta slow down my reading, I read “another” and then “team” and ignored the “role with the”. 😂

  17. excitedprotons

I said it before and I’ll say it again: pay this man whatever tf he wants on his next contract, we need to keep him in the organization until he retires.

  18. CertifiedVibeChecker

I’d guess that he becomes a scout, or scout consultant

  19. Saskatchewack

clickbaity title. Seems he almost got a promotion to Grand Overseer of goaltending and the AHL fellow is promoted to his old day to day roles.

  20. Interesting because he was already the director of goaltending but after reading the release from the Canucks, it seems like he just physically can’t be on the ice as much.

Glad he’s still with us at the end of the day.

  21. Only-Nature7410

I guess thats evolution. Not crazy about this.
I would prefer him on the ice. He is the Goalie Whisperer.

At least he is in the organization

    Me reading start: *i panic*

    Me reading end: *i clam*

As big of a loss as this is, we should all remember that this was apparently his decision. He will still remain with the organization scouting goalies and helping with development, he just won’t be handling the day to day. I hope whatever the reason for his decision to move to a smaller role it makes him more happy.

Also Marko Torenius is a very good goaltending coach with a great track record overseas and he did an admirable job with Silovs and Tolopilo in Abby. I feel confident that he will be able to step in and take the reigns from Clarke.

we had what, one good season and a good chunk of the coaching staff decides they want out?
