Well… here comes mediocrity. We’ve been so lucky to have the guy. We’re screwed without him.

  5. SmokyMetal060

Very sad- he was a huge part of the organization- but we’re fine for the foreseeable future. Shesterkin and Quick aren’t gonna suddenly suck because of this.

Well thankfully the organization finally took some steps last off season to help develop the skills of our skater prospects so maybe in the future we won’t have to rely so heavily on our goalies leading the way? The only optimistic approach I can attach to this news lol.

Not super worried about this. Malcom has been working with / Learning from Allaire for the past 6 years as a part of the team’s goaltending staff, and he’s done a decent job with some of our AHL goalies in that time.

Sam last week, Benny this week 😭

This really isn’t a big deal. Doubt they didn’t ask Benny for his recommendation. He’s still going to be around as well.

If the goaltending falls off it’s obviously a problem but no reason to be upset about this lol. Plus it was reported months ago..

From what I’ve read I get the impression that Allaire is really good at coaching guys to calm down, stay within themselves, and let the game come to them. Maximize what you can do instead of doing things you can’t.

That takes a lot of trust and a strong relationship, so I’m glad they stayed within the organization. Allaire will still be there to coach the coaches and keep that confidence flowing. I think this is gonna work great. I’d be worried if they were bringing in someone new.

The Rangers couldn’t offer him a WFH situation?

  12. Sjdillon10

This broke me. Find a way to put him in the rafters

  13. Georgiewho

Only scary thought is this happening right when Igor is about to sign the largest goalie contract in the league.

  14. blueline7677

Wasn’t this already known? Now we just know his replacement. He’s also still with the team so it’s not like he won’t be around

My brother played with Jeff at Yale and they won a National Championship together. He’s an amazing kid from a great family. He’s put the work in and earned this. I’m happy for him.

First Sam, now the Goalie Whisperer. I’m done with this off season.

  18. Guys it’s been fun. Gotta steal Mitch Korn or something. Where’s SEAL team 6 ?

  19. ranger0293

Hopefully they don’t give the Jim Ramsay treatment to Allaire.

The news about Benoit stepping back isn’t new. It was reported back in June that he would « step back » and remain the director of goaltending, but leave day to day coaching duties to someone else.

The new news is that Jeff Malcom is going to be the person who will take care of the day to day.

  21. kvnklly

Very sad day here. He is the absolute goat of goalie coaches. He needs recognition somewhere in MSG.
