I think this should be kinda standard for all teams
If your captain really is what he’s supposed to be, which is the voice in the locker room, he should have some input on decisions that will affect the locker room. He’s gonna know the guys in a way the coaches and management never will

I’d be more curious if Hughes asked Savard since he had one partial season overlap with Laine in Columbus. Plus he’d have a sense of whether the team culture there was problematic and how things went when Laine arrived.
