As a Pens fan, I think I like this. Losing Yager sucks though.

I’m surprised the Jets managed to get a prospect like Yager when Mggroarty was so clear he wanted a trade

I don’t know what to think of this. Rutger is a great forward but his skating needs work, with him wanting to jump right in to the NHL, the Pens roster makes more sense than Winnipeg. Being that he is a natural winger, I think the pens lose out on some value here giving up a high end center prospect in Yager. This will be one that will need to be revisited in 4 years for sure

Funny how they both went 14th overall. Lol. Did Winnipeg look for any former 14th overall pick to trade for McGroarty? Personally, I think I like Yager more. But I am bias to right handed centres. Interesting to see Pittsburgh make this deal. Feels pretty close to a lateral move, and not just cause they both went 14th overall in their drafts. Maybe they seen enough of 19 year old Yager to decide McGroarty has more upside?

What a horrible name

Sort of upset the Pens dished out Yager for him. I guess they need pro ready young players now though. Next 3-5 seasons could be rough.

I gotta be honest… I quite like this trade for Winnipeg. I didn’t think they’d get much for McGroaty as it was well-known that he wants out and wants to play in the NHL immediately.
Basically, I’d value Yager more. Great trade for the Jets.

Whats the 411 on Yager meister?

Anytime prospects are traded 1 for 1, it will obviously take time to determine a “winner”, but I like this trade for both sides. Rutger can contribute to Pittsburgh immediately, and I could see Yager being a future captain for Winnipeg. As difficult as it is for them to get and retain players, he’s a prairie kid, from Saskatoon, has thrived in Moose Jaw, very humble but extremely talented. The antithesis of McGroarty really. As a Caps fan, I wanted Rutger, but I wouldn’t have given up this level of prospect for him. Best of luck to both teams and both players with this one.

Trades like this are why a Canadian team hasn’t won the Stanley Cup in 31 years

That’s a hell of a name.

This is kinda Interestint to me because Yagers timeline is only a couple years behind McGroarty. Does Winnipeg think that they will have the roster spots by then?
