  1. A few months ago I believed that Draisatl and Shesterkin would both sign extensions for about 12 million per season before next season starts. Now I'm beginning to believe that neither one will.

This takes San Jose off the list of potential landing spots for Shesterkin. I'm not sure which teams can afford to pay Shesterkin the 12 million per season that he wants, and are willing to as well. I'm sure someone will do it if the Rangers don't want to. But it won't be San Jose. San Jose is going to have a very good team in a year or two, good enough that I could have seen them making a try for Shesterkin (especially because a lot of the top teams can't afford to spend 12 million on a goalie).

  2. I wish the Preds could have kept Askarov. He's entertaining as hell to watch in goal. I felt like Saros-Askarov could have been a nasty tandem, but if he's going to throw a fit instead of working hard for spot on the team maybe it's the right move.

  3. Askarov is still pretty raw. I'm still not sold on him but I hope this works out for GM Grier and the SJS

For that reason, I'm giving the early win to the guy who solved the biggest problem i.e GM Trotz

  4. Very tidy piece of work for Grier. And this deal makes sense for Nashville as well since Askarov wasn't gonna be getting very many NHL games any time soon with Saros' extension.

  5. I don't watch season previews in August. Because so much can change in August up until training camp. People care about previews that discuss players that are actually on the team.

  6. I know you dont redo previews, but a fair amount has happened in San Jose now that maybe some sort of "how bright is the future in San jose" video would make sense? Idk I'm not the Youtuber, but I would be interested to know how your opinion has changed (if at all) on SJ

  7. San Jose fans have to be licking their chops. Grier got them a long term goalie, without giving up much at all. As I mentioned last week, Trotz is not a smart individual, talent wise. Great move for the Sharks. This will expedite them moving up 2 to 3 years faster. I wonder what the Canadiens offered?

  8. You didn't touch on it, but currently the condition on the 1st is it's the worst between SJ's and Vegas's. Logic dictates that it'll be Vegas's, but I think making that point is a sign by Grier that he believes that San Jose could be MUCH better than last year. Even if it's not realistic, if the goal is for management to show confidence in the squad, this is a way to do it, to say, "Hey, there's a chance we do better than Vegas this year."

  9. a bit bummed as a preds fan. askarov should have a higher ceiling than Saros, bobrovsky, vasilievsky, shesterkin…if not better. So expected like 2 first round picks. He will be great in Sharks. New Nabokov.

  10. Exciting times. The rebuild is almost complete. They got their star goalie, their star D-man, and a slew of star forwards. Now just some depth and a couple years of growing pains and they should be a wild card team.

  11. There is nothing more pointless than a great goaltender on a trash team. What is the condition of the draft pick?

  12. I feel Nashville reacted too quickly. I feel like there must have been better options than this. I dont completely hate this, but I think they could have gotten more.

  13. Great pick up by San Jose. I wish Montreal traded for Askarov over"Dark Cloud" Laine. Montembeault tries hard but he's more a intermediate goalie you have before you finally acquire a quality number 1 starter. Laine I'm pretty sure will be a mistake unless Hughes can unload him for decent players or a high draft pick. People still seem to been fixated on Laine's first three years stats & not the person who's demanded two trades from two different organizations, one dimensional play, dwindling production for the last five years & his personal problems that put him in the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program

  14. San Jose's only missing rebuild piece was a goaltender of the future. If Askarov hits the team could be a monster in 2-3 years time.

  15. As a Preds fan, and a hockey fan in general, it's tough giving up a 1st rounder in Askarov (that COULD possibly be great) but I think the return Trotz got was good. I wanted the 1st round pick (so with 3 1st rounders in 2025 there is a lot of potential moving up/trading/signing an RFA to an offer sheet). We have lots of flexibility for a "win now" type of team and to think it didn't cost us anything other than cap space to sign Stamkos, Marchessault, and Skjei. We've got all our future draft picks and could get some additional cap space if the Ryjo thing with the Flyers turns in their favor. Edstrom and Chrona we'll see. Edstrom seems to be a pretty good to decent NHL prospect that is still developing. Mitch Korn is a pretty awesome goaltending coach and there is a lot he can do with a 6'6 Swede.
