  1. Malkin played the majority of the year with linemates who were invisible. R Smith was a complete bust and was sulking the entire season (clearly didn't want to be in Pitt) & Rakell played with a nagging injury and had a brutal year. Trying to get Malkin going the coach teamed him with AHL level players too (Colin White, Puustinen & DOC in the first part of the season when DOC wasn't doing much offensively). Geno was also "punished" by Sullivan/Rierden for the abysmal PP & spend a hunk of the season on PP 2. The demotion was undeserved imo as EK was plain bad at setting up Geno for one timer blasts (Geno's bread and butter on the PP) while Letang can handle that duty. Still Letang and Geno were rarely on the PP together. Once Bunting was acquired & he/Geno developed chemistry….Geno was a completely different player. He was flying around being a menace and looked dangerous most shifts the last 20 games. He also regained his PP1 spot and looked sharp. His return to form also coincided with his parents visiting from Russia (for the first time in nearly 6 years). Before they arrived he looked and acted like he was playing with a heavy heart.
I think Malkin's underachieving 67 points were a result of almost everything that could go wrong – going wrong (aside from injury). The PP will be much better this season. Karlsson looked far more comfortable down the stretch. Geno and Bunting should have a full season together. Rakell should bounce back. The team is much deeper than last season. I expect Geno potting 30+ goals and flirting with 80 points once again.
