1. The Sharks pretty much traded Hertl for Askarov..The 1st rounder and better prospect were both from the Hertl trade

  2. After missing out on Yaroslav Askarov, perhaps the Devils will trade Nathan Bastian, Nico Daws, Nolan Foote, Arseni Gritsyuk, a 2025 4th-rounder, and a 2026 conditional 5th-rounder to the Bruins for Jeremy Swayman and then sign Jeremy to an 8-year contract extension worth $96 million ($12 million AAV a year).

  3. In a way the timing wasn't quite right. It's great to take a gamble on a young goalie, but I'm not sure this is the year to do it, coming off the year we just had. San Jose is in a better spot for that.

  4. Eh I am not too bummed about this. Yeah he may be good in the minors. But can he be good in the majors? Not sure. Look at Vitek in the 2022-2023 season…he kicked ass in the regular season, and choked in the post season, and to bailed out by a rookie. Besides…we have a lot of goaltending prospects with potential. Plus, we can keep some assets to #BringBradytoNJ

  5. Yo, Ace….I am making a hockey stick out of wood for my 5 year old niece. My dad is a rangers fan, always wearing a rangers hat…should I get my niece to say to my dad "grandpa…can I have your hat? I need a hockey puck!"?

  6. For what it’s worth we don’t know for sure what the future holds. Sure we have scouting reports, but there’s always those guys that come out of the blue, and everyone is like, “who?!” But maybe Askarov gets injured, (for his sake I hope not,) but we just don’t know. Maybe someone leaves KHL to play in the NHL, and just posts highlight reel plays every night. Or maybe Daws with a more seasoned D Corps becomes legendary all of a sudden. I know we all just want to win at this point, and I think we’ll all take whoever can do that! 😂

  7. Can’t get them all unfortunately. Let’s be happy with what we have. It’s better than what we had.
    Lazar days till season opener!

  8. Brother Ace, say it ain't so!? Man, we could've had him….this sucks!! We better get Mercer signed soon, I can't take anymore heartache!! This one hurts….I feel your pain bro.

  9. Imagine not dealing the #1 pick for Markstrom and using it to get Askarov during our true competing window in a few years. SMH.

  10. I m not going to pity the Sharks. No one gave a dime about us all this time.

I m not going to cry over Askarov either. I believe in the kids, especially Daws. As you Ace have said, they can't go that wrong with such a number of goalies in the dev camp. One of them has to fit the bill. Would it be better to have Askarov? Yes, absolutely. Will we be going to hell without him? I don't think so. Even if we go to hell, we will be playing at home ice, so don't be afraid, Devils.

  11. I mean I get not being too high on Edstrom but he is a 19yr center who is 6'3" 190lbs and was drafted in the 1st round (32nd*), now I'd say so far his numbers look like he might be more of a Boqvist who the Devils took 36th overall even though he's only 6'1" 184lbs now at 25yr so maybe this kid fills out to 205-210ish and can develop into more than Jesper. I think they're valuing him much higher than we are but man if Fitz coulda sold them Stillman, Casey and the 2nd… oh well like you said let's hope one of our guys pans out.

Since NJ doesn't have a 1st I'm sure Mercer was the starting ask from Trotz but was probably even higher.

  12. Called it in the comments section of your last video on the subject (Sharks are my #2 team). He's more valuable to them and they were willing to pay more. I don't know if he's worth the price, goalies are so uncertain. We have Daws', Malek, and our recent 2nd round pick in the pipeline.

  13. Fitz dropped the ball on this one. I would have gambled. Askarov is game ready! I like his size and movement post to post. If the devils strike out on these goaltenders, I’m gonna loose my mind. LGD!

  14. Haha fritz needs to go he sucks gets rid of our young goalie that plays better than daws just to resign daws like come on dude think before you do and try signing before you trade and move on

  15. As I've said previously, I didn't think NJ was likely to land Askarov, but it's good to see that Fitz was at least in the mix and seeing if a deal could get done. The main thing the Devils need to really get situated is the defense, anyway. They have good goaltending right now (maybe not ELITE but good enough to make a positive difference) and if the D is out there doing their job by shutting down the opponents' opportunities and not letting the goalie in net get bombarded by shots every game, then NJ doesn't NEED to have an elite goalie. Yes, it would be awesome if one of these kids in the pipeline turns out to be that top-level goaltender, but you can win championships with solid goaltending and strong defense. It would have been nice to nab Askarov, but it's certainly not the end of the world. At least he didn't go to a division rival.

  16. I think the piece in the trade that was most important was a 2025 1st rounder. New Jersey only had a 2026 1st, and Nashville probably didn't want to wait that long to use it. A bird in the hand and all that for Nashville I guess. Shame our deal didn't get it done…. Whatever it may have been. Askarov would have been a risk, but we would have had Markstrom to mentor him, as well as Daws or Allen if one wasn't traded for Yaroslav. I think we would have been fine in the meantime.

  17. WIth the Sharks pipeline rolling 7's these last two years, the Askarov trade feels like a miracle. Even if he turns out to be a mediocre goalie, at least the Sharks aren't going with a shooter tutor for much longer. Depending on where San Jose's first round pick is next year, this seems like a pretty safe gamble ( as opposed to paying Erik Karlsson 50 bajillion dollars and tanking the franchise).

Hypothetically, even if Askaraov doesn't work out, I can see why San Jose went big. They had the same problem with Nabokov's backup a few years back. Some kid named Kiprusoff ended up in Calgary. He seemed to turn out okay.

  18. Im not sure NJ had more to offer unless you were willing to part with L hughes, nemec, or silayev which im assuming are untouchables. Edstrom is a good prospect could be a very solid 3rd line center i really liked him as a sharks fan
