They came so close to the playoffs last year. The Walker trade & the D-men injuries to Drysdale, Seeler, & Risto all at the same time hurt them more than what they will admit. This year they won't be able to sneak up on anybody. Mitchkov will be a marked man, the rest of the team will have to provide some secondary scoring. And PLEASE replace Rocky Thompson as the 'PowerPlay Guru'. He's been nothing short of terrible for 3 consecutive years. As usual, their success or failure will come down to staying healthy & goal tending. That position will be a nightmare of it's own AGAIN.
When they hired DB, my opinion was they wouldn’t be back in the playoffs for 3-5 years. Next year is Year 2. Imho, they will take a step back. They will have to crush it next summer and hit on the three first round picks
The pens will likely miss the playoffs next year too
