  1. Keith Yandle

Hey his buyout is still on the books for one last year so I’m going with it.

He was always a favorite of mine because there wasn’t a ton to cheer for during his era but maybe Jay Bouwmeester. He was quite solid, at times looked so incredibly smooth while skating, but seemed to take shifts off mentally and didn’t quite live up to the hype here.

What are the parameters of being overrated? By contract or by hype? And is this open to current players or all time?

All time overrated: Ben Chariot simply because of what we gave up to get him

Current: probably Ekblad. He’s not worth his current AAV

  4. ViceCatsFan

Ekblad for current, Yandle for past. David Booth was also blown a little out of proportions too, I liked him a lot personality wise but he was a glass cannon.

  5. Won’t be popular here, but I have to say montour. I tried to like him, but last year he had a hell of a season and everyone was talking about him like he was Erik karlsson. Before is 70+ point season his career high was 37, and only broke 30 points twice in his career. His defensive analytics were bad in Anaheim, and bad in Buffalo (gotta excuse this one since it’s Buffalo). His offence was nowhere near good enough to offset his defensive struggles

Weegar is better but the cost of montour was cheaper so I think that’s why they kept montour instead. I guess I should also be clear I’m not saying overrated dollar wise, he was worth 3.5M, but the fans opinion of him made him way overrated

Ed Jovonowski unfortunately… especially his second stint as pool side captain.

As much as it pains me to say it, it’s Ekblad. He just never really became that #1 overall pick caliber of player. I think he was really good at one point but he’s now on the decline with injuries catching up to him. Props to him for evolving his game into a more defensive defenseman/shutdown role but those types of defenseman can be had for far less than 7.5 million a season. Really happy he got his cup with us though.

  8. TonyWyomey

David Booth was essential ERod on a bad team. Always shot into goalies belly.

I liked him though. Slim pickings and all.

  9. Jackadelic23

His stay was brief but Claude Giroux, all the hype and i forget he was even on the team at one point

think erod being most underrated shows lack of understanding of this tbh. i would agree if he didnt score multiple stanley cup final goals. doing that tends to make a player overrated if anything, which a majority of you all probably would of had him as when he was in a scoring slump in the regular season despite doing all the same great little things.

overrated all time from our fanbase is probably gudbranson. hes on his 10th chance simply because his size and being draft 3rd overall, but mostly this fanbase particularly didnt like trading him and still wanted him back (and wanted tallon back lmao) when our defense was viewed as ‘soft’ despite how much of a negative he is when on the ice.
