  1. I hope Crosby does not sign an extension. Would love to see him go to a contender for another run at a cup. Ideally with a Canadian team. Time will tell though. Fantastic player. Also been a big Malkin fan for a long time. Would love to see him end his career leading a KHL team to a championship.

  2. The team missed two years in a row. The core isn't getting younger. I think they'll continue the slow descent into irrelevance. 6th in the Metro with 82-87 points.

  3. I think if Crosby plans to have a post-playing career with the Penguins organization it would be very team friendly NOT to sign an extension and to play ball with being a rental if the team isn't playing well enough in order to steal some youth and prospects.

  4. The issue with the Pens is that last season, they had the best health from their top guys in many years, and they still didn’t make the playoffs. Injuries happen and if they do, things will go sideways.

  5. The last two seasons, Crosby and Malkin, have played all 82 games, and they haven't made the playoffs. I just don't see this team as a playoff team. I am also surprised that they werent more aggressive in adding players

  6. As a Pens fan, I’m always hoping they’ll bounce back, but I’ve come to terms with the fact that they’re going to be mediocre until the core retires. Once the core retires, hopefully they’ll go into a rebuild.
As for this season, I think they’ll miss the playoffs (5th or 6th in division), but the big factor is gonna be the PP without Reirden – that was arguably the biggest issue last season for them so I’m excited to see what they can do with a new PP coach

  7. Pens have no future and will crash hard when Sid is gone. But they’ll just get the next generational superstar, so they’ll be okay.

    Lemieux
    Jagr
    Crosby
    ???

    Not to mention:

    Fleury
    Malkin
    Letang

They do pretty well when they crash and burn.

  8. Although it seems like it’ll be another of mediocrity. What I love is we actually got younger. An injection of youth is exactly what this team desperately needs right now

  9. If the pens didn't have the worst powerplay I have seen, they would've made the playoffs. Firing Todd Rierden was the first step. Hopefully, David Quinn can revive Karlsson and the Pens on the pp and Jarry doesn't fall off a cliff for the second half of the season…..again

  10. I'm impressed the Pens haven't hit rock bottom after their period of what I'll call 'modern years dominance'. This is almost purely because of Crosby still being very good and dragging the team to respectally points totals. Without Crosby I'm sure they would be in the middle, if not coming out of, a rebuild. If that's necessarily a bad thing. You want to just want to rip the band-aid off when it comes to the Pens and have had the rebuild finished by now so Crosby would have a few more years of high personal level of competitiveness along with a good team around him. Wishful thinking, I know but that's what we're here for, some 'what ifs' to entertain ourselves.

  11. A team run by Dubas – pay too much to get a player you don't need which makes it so you can't get/keep the players you need. But it probably makes owners happy because the money comes in and people talk about your team.

  12. The window has closed. It's boarded up.

Pittsburgh is doing the right thing by trying to stay relevant and give guys that are franchise legends respect. Time is undefeated, the core three are all about 36/37 years old.

They spent assets to get under the cap or bring in rentals. Now they're old, capped out, and have no assets. In two or three years they're a San Jose/Chicago equivalent.
