My first ever live Flames game was game 1 of the Dallas series 2 years ago. So glad I got to see him play while he was in Calgary. I can’t even imagine what his family must be going through, losing him and his brother and on the day before his sister’s wedding to boot. I don’t even know what to say, it’s beyond horrible. RIP Johnny and Matthew. Can’t believe it’s true.

  2. Wow! What a tragedy for the family… so sad! This will potentially break Mony

  3. Man – woke up to a WhatsApp message, in total shock. My heart hurts for his child, wife, parents, sister and other loved ones. Just an unbelievably sad story.

While I’m a leaf fan I always admired Johnny hockey’s skill and passion for the game (one of the few flames I like). Just a sad day……

Monahan was one of the first people I thought of after his family. Truly heartbroken for all of them.

  7. Monahan must be devastated. Whole reason for him choosing to go to the bluejackets was his best friend Johnny. Going to be a difficult year/season especially with how Johnny is posted everywhere in the Columbus arena

I’m so heart broken for everyone. Every family member, every close friend, every fan, every little kid that looked up to Johnny… this is a dark day in the hockey world.

    I love you all.

Literally one of my players ever to watch. We were so lucky to see him play his best hockey in Calgary.
It was hard to see him go, but part of the reason was so he could spend more time with his family.
I’m glad his final years were filled with family time.

Rest in peace Johnny hockey. #ForeveraFlame

Man I grew up on these guys. I was 13 when Iginla was traded so it stung of course, but my teenage years were all Johnny, Monny, and the Cardiac kids. Every gameday was a blast, win or lose. I’ll never forget the excitement every time he touched the puck that I felt. Thank you for everything.

Rest in peace to my hero — Johnny fuckin’ Hockey 🏒🏒🏒

Honestly still shellshocked.. one of the best to ever lace em up for the Flames… Heart is broken for his family and friends

  12. He’s my hero. Grew up loving him from the first time I can remember seeing him on the ice. Made flames hockey fun and exciting again. I’ll never forget the feeling I got when he scored that OT winner against Dallas. RIP Johnny hockey. Flames legend❤️

Johnny was a party animal. Met him in sub Rosa and shared some molly with him. He was an awesome guy.

  14. I hurt for you Calgary, love and best wishes from Montreal.
