I have the balls to say it:

    Marc Andre Fleury

Lovely person, outstanding 2009 playoff run, but absolutely shit himself the next 6 years in the playoffs. I know people talk about how we should’ve kept him over Murray, but he got benched for Tomas Vokoun in the playoffs one year. He will always be important to the team and is still probably the best goalie in Penguins history, but some talk about him in hindsight like we had prime Dominik Hasek in the net. I will even make the controversial argument that Brian Dumoulin might be more important to the Penguins all time

    Luc Robitaille

Played one shortened season for the team at less than a point per game and faded completely in the playoffs.

He’s held up as this legendary Penguin for stuff he did elsewhere.

Don’t get me wrong, the man had a phenomenal career, but Pittsburgh was a pit stop where he didn’t do his best work.

Calling him an all time great Pen is like saying Iginla is one of the greatest Penguins ever

Overrated is MAF or Brooks Orpik. MAF I dont need to explain but man, looking back at older clips you can see Brooks chasing every single play. Hits in a vacuum are fine, but a trend of hitting constantly usually means you are chasing a play. You are better off with a defender who shuts plays down in advance of a hit being needed. Examples in Dumo and Pettersson who are unilaterally superior players to Orpik.

Call me a hater, it as much as the “shift is cool”, I’d much rather him or someone else jumped a pass to get the damn puck out of the zone lol.

Got to look at the guys who played with Buries It and what they did after they stopped playing with him.

Kevin Stevens? Warren Young? Rob Brown?

I agree with the Marc Andre Fleury pick, however for the sake of being different I’m gonna go with Conor Sheary, feel like he’s mostly remembered for playing well with Sid for around 1.5 seasons, however what’s lost is the fact that when his game wasn’t clicking he was atrocious, falling over nearly every shift, got bullied off the puck, when he wasn’t on sids line he was an anchor on any line he was on and in general listless play, I feel like his second stint here only highlights his weak performance and overall legacy with the club

What did they call him ? Big game Brass

Mike Matheson. I swear this sub has a weird love affair with a guy that took the defense out of defenseman.

Anyone we’ve let go of over the last 6 years

    Matheson, Marino, Tanev, Sam Lafferty

    Honestly I think it’s Marino

  10. I dont know if I’m happy or sad that Gary Roberts isn’t the answer for all of these already.

Morozov was pretty overrated. James Neal was nothing without Evgeni

Rob Scuderi – the missing piece my butt. High off the glass so the other team can just regain possession and come back for more.

I’ll lead by saying that Max Talbot still is one of my favorite Penguins of all time, but he may actually be the most overrated.  Aside from the cup run in 2009 he really didn’t do all that much. He had maybe 3 or 4 years of average bottom 6 production for us and then he left to go to the Flyers where he started to decline. He did score 2 of the bigger goals in franchise history in the same game and arguably sparked the turnaround against the Flyers, but if you remove those two moments I don’t think many people even remember he was on the team.

Think I gotta agree with Brooks Orpik.

  15. I mean, yeah, it’s Fleury rather easily. Lots of revisionist history with his tenure here.
