I love this. 3 years ago when he arrived here I thought for sure he was gonna wear #13 like he did with team USA, was a bit surprised to see 22.

After Marty St Louis and Kane, Gaudreau was the next elite small player to come into the league. It’s hard to believe that he played ~10 years, and it’s wild to think guys like Caufield were young teenagers watching him play. I was a small player growing up and I remember how much I loved seeing Kane, St Louis, and other small guys light it up. Until now it never really occurred to me how many small kids looked up to him, especially Americans like Caufield. Most teenagers now wouldn’t remember St Louis from live footage, and if you asked small players who they model their games after, most would say Kane and Johnny Hockey.

Honestly I don’t think GMs give Cole the shot he’s had if it wasn’t for guys like Theo, St Louis and Gaudreau showing that you don’t need to be 6’ or taller to produce at an elite level
