It seemed to me that Sutter sucked the joy out of the game for a lot of his players. Remember the shade he threw at a press conference before Johnny’s 500th NHL game?

One of the coolest things was to see Johnny totally thrive playing for Sutter. Would have been nice to get some more seasons of it, but just goes to show Johnny cared so much about his family that winning wasn’t the most important thing.

I know a lot of folks wanted him gone but I’m still convinced Darryl Sutter is the best head coach the Flames have ever had.
Tactics aside, as much of a hard ass as he was known to be, there is tons of evidence about how much he cared about his players and their families. You can see it even in the way he interacts with Chris in this clip. Hard and tough exterior with a good heart.

I love that johnnys dad said he would thrive under Daryl… because he was as tough or tougher. Life is so unfair.
