My prediction is that McDavid gets $20 but $32 million is deferred bringing him to a $16 million aav over 10 years. At $16, he and Draisaitl will be 30% of the expected $100 million cap. When Draisaitl signed for $8.5 he and McDavid were 28% of the cap, and Draisaitl was considered to be a massive bargain contract at that salary. The tandem is likely to only be 2% more salary between them than their last deals, so I don't know why people are saying it's somehow now an overpay to pay them the same percentage.

Not too much to pay, if you consider Drai's getting back pay for his current bargain contract, AND he can still improve. I want to see him use his world-class backhand to shoot on net more. He could get a lot of no-look backhanders past 'tenders.
He can pass like that, so why not shoot too. And play better defence: just hustle back, even if gassed, and take away some space of someone like Reinhart.
I hate to rain on the parade, but the obvious problem here is the team is going to be paying $40m for 3 players. And they have no draft picks coming. Good luck with that.
