Honestly, this year and the next one might be the best shot the Oilers have at the cup.
Draisaitl's salary jumps to 14 next year and McDavid's might jump to 16-17Million.
Plus, Bouchard's salary could easily jump to 8 Million next year
And there are FIVE players that will be UFAs next year.
But on the plus side: Ekholm could be cheaper since he'll be 35+ at the end of his contract and the Oilers won't be paying James Neal's buyout(~2million) after this year!
The problem isn't going to be getting McDavid or even Bouchard signed. There will be enough for them assuming the cap has a steady rise the issue will be filling in decent enough players around them. People seem to think the two guys they brought in after the offer sheets happened are all of the sudden going to be decent players. There is a reason why neither team wanted those guys and both can barely make their team. That's the type of players the Oilers are going to have to get once they complete all these big contracts and they have to hope that these scrap pieces can perform. Maybe they do but not likely.
