  1. This had to be one of the toughest Flyer teams ever… period. Brown, Berube, Nachbaur, Tocchet, Mellanby, Carkner, Wells, Chychrun, I think Secord was on this team too, but not for long… nuts!

  2. Man, I remember the excitement that would flush through the crowd as the likes of Brown & Berube step over the boards. Something interesting was about to happen. I may have been at this game, but I can't fully remember, but I do remember that feeling as a kid for the many game i did attend during this era. Miss it, forever gone, as is the real NHL.

  3. Tel me what that accomplished, as the home crowd cheers in the background. Some people are just clueless.

  4. Weird the idiot Pens announcers are worried about Tocchets glove but not about the dangerous play that instigated it when he pushed Rick into the boards from a rear angle a foot from them. Seems their karenness was biased.

  5. Caufield & Zemlack must have been shitting brick coming into this building. They knew they would be treated and from 7 or 8 different guys. They also did not have the best record against any of them.

  6. I remember Jim Johnson pounding Pelle Eklund and wanting to get a ride to the Spectrum to jump in that pile…Per-Erik was good for single digit PIMs in a full season…

  7. Murderers row on that Flyers team. Dave Brown, Berube, Tocchet, Nachbauer, Carkner, Mellanby, and Chychrun. Don’t know if there’s ever been a tougher lineup in hockey. The Spectrum was as volatile, powder keg of a building selling affordable tickets to working class Philadelphians.

  8. I never understood why homer announcers feel the need to cry and lecture every time their time loses a fight or the other wants payback for a borderline cheap hit. Caufield should’ve received a penalty on the hi t on Mellanby… which helped lead to all the fights.

  9. This game could be in the argument for most fighters dressed.
Pitt played Jay Caufield, Richard Zemlak, Steven Dykstra, Dan Frawley, Rod Buskas
Philly had Dave Brown, Craig Berube, Jeff Chychrun, Terry Carkner, Rick Tocchet, Jay Wells, Don Nachbaur, Scott Mellanby and Jeff Harding.
56 players have over 2000 Pim's and Philly dressed 4 of them Berube, Wells, Tocchet, Mellanby.
    The good ol' days
