  1. How I understand the Jarvis deal and deferred money is for buyouts its just like a bonus that part of the deal a player gets regardless. As for how the AAV is lowered sounds like you take the $15.67M out find out what it should be worth in 9 years and then add that lower number back in for the AAV calculation they already do. So the league is saying he's losing $400k a year about. For trades the deferred money is paid out by the team he was on when the payment would have been so if he's traded before year 7 the new team would take that payment but the Canes are still responsible for years 1 and 2. Hope this helps and I'm also not 100% just trying to put the puzzle together from multiple sources that each have a piece of it lol.

  2. It might make sense when Auton Matthews looks to sign his next contract at age 30. TOR give him an 8-year deal with a bunch of signing bonus deferred to when he retires in low-tax Florida.

  3. You guys aren't being real if you think McDavid will stay in Edmonton lol. You think he wants to carry a team on his back for the rest of his career? McDavid knows the window to win a cup is this year. He can make more money elsewhere and have a better chance at the cup elsewhere. Oilers are in cap hell now and they'll never be a depth team. Draisaitl is only a superstar because he plays with McDavid. Can't wait for the bandwagoners to cry about his contract once McDavid leaves. McDavid will test free agency, and hope Oilers get forced to trade him.

  4. 81 points in 3 PO's… i wish for 8 points in one PO and that would be a huge improvement… contenders vs pretenders is real

  5. Swayman is probably worth around 8.5. But I can understand if he pushed it to 9 million given the leverage he feels he has over Boston without Ullmark. 10 million is too rich. You need to let that go into the season if need be and see if he budges.

  6. Im curious on what the fine print is on the contract for seth jarvis. What if the club offered to earmark his deffered amount and guarantee like 3-5 % interest. If the club can make 10 percent, and they give him 5 of it, at least the money would be working for him.

If the club wont invest the money for him he could move to a more tax beneficial state and save some money that way.

  7. Correct me if I'm wrong doesn't the team have to pay the player interest on the deferred amount? I thought there were two options. A Libor amount or a set amount that's just predefined by the CBA? It sure seems like the entire purpose of this is to pay a player more without having to take on more cap hit. But what's confusing is why does this result in a lesser AAV? The contract is still worth the same amount. The player makes interest. The team gets to use the money to invest in the mean time. Okay so the team gets a benefit, the player gets a benefit. So why do they also get a cap break? I know back in the day when Arizona did this for Doan they didn't get salary relief. It doesn't seem to make any sense that this "generates" cap space.

  8. I can’t help but think that Draisaitl’s contract does not set Oilers up well for the future. I wonder where that places McDavid and others in concrete talks. Can the Oilers afford both Draisaitl and McDavid. If you had to pick one or the other wouldn’t it be McDavid? This all seems difficult to me!

  9. darryl sittlerr for them was a curse im sorry worse coach for the flames they had. and that was apparently on ownership so hate the flames ownership that fucks things up

  10. Jarvis deal is cap circumvention, when you cant reach a deal, settling for millions more at the end is still signing for more!!!!!!!!! HE IS NOT DEFERING ANYTHING, IT WAS ONLY EVER OFFERED AT THE END

  11. I could see Calgary and Columbus definitely retiring #13

I can see US national team and development programs also retiring #13

Boston College certainly the first to do so

Any team he ever played on/with

What a brutal loss to family friends and hockey world

  12. I dont believe 99 wanted to leave Edmonton. The owner told him he couldn't afford him and he was moving g on. At that point Wayne said OK LA.

  13. I am very annoyed by Nick Robertson. The Leafs have open space on LW. Then he asks for a trade. Would have made sense last year when they had more LWs. He doesn’t like getting sent down to the minors? Tough. He never forced the team to stay on the roster. The opportunity was always there he just never grabbed it. So this nonsense about opportunity comes across as entitlement. No one is trading meaningful assets for him. If he wants to sit out the year and have a play on PTO show up and take his roster spot that’s on him.

Not wanting to stay on the Leafs is ridiculous. He could have played more impactful hockey than Knies or even McMann. He just was very vanilla impact when he was not scoring goals. He is not an every-day NHL player at this point in his career and he only needs to look in the mirror as to why. The Leafs have needed LW talent for years and he never challenged for a spot. They still need LW talent and he wants a trade. Ridiculous.

  14. May both R.I.P. but league wide retirement? Come on MLB didn't even retire Roberto Clemente league wide. He died bringing Humanitarian aid to earthquake survivors in Nicaragua. Gaudreau was living his life when a POS. Criminally took his life

  15. I was trying to formulate this nicely, but i think the CJ show is the best podcast about players,…… Nahhh it's 32 thoughts is the best, but AFTER THAT CJ show is the best hockey podcast about current player happenings there is!

  16. Everyone talks about the Jarvis deal, but no one has answered how the deferred payments will affect the salary cap the year after the contract ends.

  17. I can't stand the Oilers. I hope theres a rematch and Florida sweeps successfully this time. I am sick of everyone fawning over the Oilers. One line, overrated team.

  18. 5:52 Quick question did Johnny want out of Calgary because of Daryl Sutter or was that Tkachuk? Cause from what I remember he loved being in Calgary but left as a FA because they didnt give him the deal he wanted which IMO is fair to the player. I know it was someone from the flames that said he was resigning with Calgary if Sutter was going to remain HC.

  19. So IMO I'm not a fan of retiring numbers league wide but I think it would be appropriate to retire 13 in Columbus and Calgary Unless the Gaudreaus don't want to have that done. I believe in respecting the families wishes so if they say no to retiring the number than that's that IMO. TBH I think the only reason 99 (Wayne Gretzky) got retired wasnt so much as what Wayne did but also was anyone else really going to where 99? its such an odd number and IMO its hilarious Mcdavid wears 97 which is like Not quite the Great One but getting there.

  20. 32:55 So for me with Robinson if he is truly unhappy sign a one year deal since this year is VERY MUCH his time to shine. If U're still unhappy come trade deadline or the end of the season then trade/leave.

  21. For me it just seems that if Edmonton wants to keep McDavid for a long time, they had to do whatever they needed to do to keep Draisaitl. If Draisaitl signed anywhere else it would basically tell McDavid that Edmonton wasn't willing to do whatever to win the cup. So, this signing is massive for Edmonton.

  22. Im confused by the Seth Jarvis contract, how is it really different from the Kovalchuk contract and many others, that were outlawed a decade ago. Back then player signing 12 years contract fully knowing that they would probably retired before the end so that could reduce the aav. How is this different. I like hearing CJ nerding out about this.

  23. In Vancouver bourdon wore 28 last year was the first time a player wanted to wear it ownership didn’t say no but coke heard how important the number was and he changed it to 82 I think at this point Vancouver may as well take it out of circulation and Calgary take 13 out
