    On Demko:
    – Says we have to wait and see for day 1 of training camp to see how active he is and if he’ll be with other goalies taking shots or skating alone.
    – The good news is that he skated twice last week, but was not taking shots. He was also seen golfing.
    – He’s not sure about him playing preseason games or regular season opener.
    – Some questions on whether or not Demko got a procedure this summer, he says some think he had his knee scoped, but no confirmation of that.
    – He was told “he’s making progress, it is slow and steady”.

    On Clark:
    – Clarifies that Clark went to the Canucks asking for a new role because he has knee and shoulder issues and couldn’t continue with the everyday on-ice training.
    – The reassignment was not a punishment, it has to do with his own health.
    – Dhali thinks Clark wanted a higher role than being relegated to a scout.
    – Some feelings out there that Clark is to blame for rushing Demko to play Round 1 vs Nashville and Demko being overplayed.

    On UFAs:
    – Canucks still pursuing Lankinen, he won’t accept less than 1M, he made 2M last year.
    – They have offered a PTO to Antti Raanta but the player is not looking for a PTO right now, he’s looking for a contract.
    – Again says that Canucks don’t want to put Poolman on LTIR to be able to accrue cap space for the deadline.

Elliotte Friedman was also on the show today and said rest for Demko will be extremely important this year and thinks Canucks recognize Demko was working too hard and they don’t want him on the ice as much.

He said Canucks feel they have a good enough team that they can start without him if they have to, they’re not worried this will be a long term thing.

Offer Lankinen 1.125 and call it a day.

The point about Clark being the one to “blame” for Demko’s workload is interesting but not surprising. Bruce and Tocchet had both mentioned that they basically play the goalies as Clark would tell them to. I think I remember Green saying something similar once when being questioned about Markstrom’s workload.

I do wonder how that’s playing out politically backstage right now as we roll into camp and Clark’s reassignment to a new role.

Man there were so many easy games last year that we could have played desmith. Like those sharks games, all of them should have been started by desmith instead we had demko in. Same with any of the bottom feeders teams.

My friend was an NCAA track athlete. Coaches basically ran them into the ground and they either came out a champion or nobody cared about them otherwise.

People regularly point to the workload of a Brodeur/Luongo/Kiprusoff to contrast with the workload of today’s goalies. Are goalie coaches just pushing modern goalies too hard? Goalies today are among the best conditioned athletes. Is it better to play a style that drops your save percentage by .03 if it means playing 10 additional games?
