Why are the Maple Leafs even in this conversation? Both the Canucks and Oilers won more games in the previous playoff year than the Leafs have won in any single playoff year in over 20 years. Both the Canucks and Oilers have been to the Stanley Cup Finals (both teams reaching game 7) since 2010, while the Leafs haven't been to a SCF since color TV became a thing. In fact, the Leafs last appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals was closer in time to the end of WW1 (1918-1967: 49 years) than it is to present day (1967-2024: 57 years).

The closest the Leaf fans have come to seeing the Stanley Cup Finals recently is when they watched the Oilers in 2024 or the Canadiens in 2021 play in the SCF on TV.
