The fact Drai plays well in the playoffs while severely limited by injury, is proof he has a brain better than a lot of other players. He is objectively better than every single "core 4" player on the Leafs. It's not Drai's fault a lot of GM's are willing to gamble. Drai is simply a proven player, which is why he deserves this contract. Most players who are close statistically, don't deserve even 12 million AAV.

Crippling contract that will age like bread.
People talking about the Oilers declining due to this deal are underestimating how high the cap will climb in the next few seasons. They were a game away from winning the Cup last season and they're arguably better on paper now. Arvidsson, J.Skinner, Emberson are all better than who they're replacing.
Yes, it'll be a challenge negotiating Bouchard and Mcdavid's extensions but they'll find a way.
Wlhat other top player wouldn't benefit from McDavid. McDavid and Drai's chemistry is symbiotic. Nobody else on the Oilers even comes close to Draisaitl's production and they all benefit from McDavid also. You have to be ELITE to to play with the ELITE. Drai and McD are easily the best one-two punch in the league and it's not really close.
