« Je veux qu’il (Patrik Laine) soit enthousiaste à l’idée de jouer au hockey. Je veux qu’il ait cette passion. Je veux qu’il soit enthousiaste à l’idée de venir à la patinoire. Peu importe ce que je fais, s’il n’a pas cette passion, rien d’autre ne tiendra. » – L’entraîneur Marty St. Louis aujourd’hui

That was a big thing I noted from Laine’s press conference. With whatever was happening in Columbus and his declining mental health, he lost his passion for the game which showed up as not being the impact player expected of him.
Hopefully the culture being developed in Montreal will help reignite that passion, provide him with better support, and get him to a higher level of play.
That’s our coach! 💪
If anyone can do it it’s MSL. Look at armia as the prime example. He looked like he didn’t care, was ready to retire. Then all of the sudden he was a top player on the ice to end the year
True, Laine needs passion. He can be clutch. He lives for those big moments. I’m excited to see him play hockey again.
Same energy

That’s a smart coach there
This man will change the meta of coaching.
Obviously I have NO idea about the cause, the mental health issues or anything, but this winter I read his text that he wrote about Winnipeg in 2018, and some parts stood out to me.
« When I was in the backyard with my dad as a little boy, shooting at soda cans, I wasn’t really thinking about Ovi — or anyone. I was just … me. Like, how do I want to shoot? Who do I want to be as a player? How can I score more than the other guy?
My dad was a beer league player, so he wasn’t much help. No. I am joking. He was a very big part of my life and why I became the player I am. You might already know, but I actually played goalie until he told me that I should be a skater. Good decision, I think.
My dad still lives in Finland. But he watches every Jets game. We still enjoy talking about hockey but he doesn’t give me much advice anymore. He comes and visits me and Mom a few times a year. »
Also this part:
« I owe the team a lot for putting me in a good spot for my rookie season. I never felt too much pressure. I was able to be me. I was able to be that kid in the backyard with his dad. And that kid loved to score. So I scored. And I remember every goal. Like, I’m not kidding. I can tell you who got the primary assist, secondary assist, who I scored on, what the situation was … all that stuff. For all 36 goals. But my first one was definitely my best. »
Even though this text is about Winnipeg, it’s a really good text which I highly recommend. Humoristic text.

In Montreal you had better show as much passion as the fans, or you won’t be around very long.
Today I realized that Patty’s going to score 40 goals
Was this guy always this straight edge
Marty is an Ascended Master of life. One my favourite if my favourite fellow French Quebecer in history. He is exactly what we what we need for a leader. Thing are unpredictable and complicated but somehow no matter I’m so stoked that him out of anybody is the leader of our group. What a stud.
