Sure, it’s where he grew up, but he still has a lot of growing up to do.

  2. Significant-Ad-8684

Unlike the NBA and MLB, it’s refreshing to hear players say they want to play in this city. Looking at you Tavares and Marner!

I know they both grew up here but still. It’s a good feeling!

  3. FansTurnOnYou

    « 13M or I walk » – also Marner

I dunno why I am the way that I am but I apologize. I won’t change but I’ll still feel bad about it.

Ah stfu Marner. Words Vs actions. Let’s see when your contract comes up if you really mean it. Because your contract doesn’t reflect the contract of a hometown boy who wants nothing but to win a cup for his boyhood team.

  5. Sir-Nicholas

Sooo would you still want to play here if there’s other teams offering more money?

  6. fancypants55

Then don’t bend the franchise over and raw dog them. Nylander is a fair comparable

  7. Minimum-Card-5075

When will people realize that paying Marner 11 million during this contract wasn’t an issue it was paying Tavares 11 million that messed up the cap.

  8. 0h-Canada

Hometown discount or stfu about how much you looooooove being here….

  9. SuperAwesome13

    under $10m x8 years and i’ll believe u mitch

Amazing how he loves his hometown team right around contract time. Really gotta hammer that part home for everyone.

  11. DiscussionBeautiful

So deep. Wow. This time he really bared his soul… /s

  12. UtheDestroyer

I feel for Marner during times like these, like imagine having to answer this question like every month, it’d be fucking nauseating

  13. I’d take Crosby for 8.7 average over Marner at the same value or higher.

  14. Current-Own

I try to like this guy but can’t do it. No matter how much he’s trying to look like a saint, I just don’t see him as a winner. More of a Whiner.

  15. Is it not possible to love playing somewhere while also wanting to get paid a ton?

  16. At the end of the day we want Mitch to be happy with his contract- whatever the amount is. I’d give him what he wants- it’s going to be difficult replacing him. He’s one of the best right wingers in the league- and he’s from Toronto and actually wants to play here- which is a big deal in the NHL.

Cap inflation alone puts Marner at $12M if you’re using Nylander as benchmark. Obviously a lot hinges on this season and you’re clearing $11M with Tavares regardless.

“It’s where I grew up which is why I’m willing to take a hometown discount of only 13 million per year for the next 5 years”

  19. Take a team friendly deal then. If Sid can do it in Pittsburgh to win, you surely can do it in Toronto to help us win.

  20. TripFisk666

I say that about my home too, but usually I keep going:

“It’s my home, it’s where I grew up, but it’s a stinking hell hole with no prospects for me.”

  21. DontToewsM3Bro

    Take a pay cut, then

But nope, none of the core will ever scarfice some money to win, and these continually fold in the playoffs

Horrible recipe to try a win a cup

  22. Dudedrinksbeer

What a surprise. This dude only gets passionate about doing the griddy.

  23. MaxWattage432

So don’t rinse us and help your home win a cup ffs

  24. haloimplant

His agent and whoever else involved don’t give af so who cares

I know this isn’t a popular opinion but stop any negotiations and tell Mitch prove it to us what you’re worth. Don’t give him another dime on any extension until we know we can win with you in the playoffs and you’re a factor in doing so. Otherwise you’re just gonna use up 10-12M over 5-8 years for regular season success

  27. Trumptard_9999

Me too, now it is time for you to grow up and move away from home.

  28. power_of_funk

I like Marner the hockey player a lot. I don’t like Marner the person at all. Kid hasn’t matured at all since coming here. Doesn’t sound like he spent any time taking notes when training with Crosby this summer.
