The backup goalie is usually one of the most popular guys in the locker room. Usually they're the ones with the best personalities, easygoing and can step in cold and give a good performance. Based on his numbers, I don't know how Lankinen was even available. Maybe he just saw a fit in Vancouver with the injury situation. But he's put up good numbers in the past, so I don't know why he couldn't be guaranteed a backup role on a team on at least a 2 or 3 year contract.
