I’ve gotta remember to cancel my subscription this winter. I find myself being less interested in their stuff as time goes on.
Zingyyy
I cancelled my Athletic subscription already but this sucks. I like him on the CJ pod and he would always throw in Flames tidbits on there.

I was gonna cancel when they replaced Hailey with Julian, but ended up liking his content. I’ll wait and see, but it worries me that a new writer wasn’t announced at the same time. I don’t care about « NHL News », so there’s no reason to subscribe if we don’t have a beat writer.

I’m happy, 960 gets better without him. I can’t handle him trying to pronounce everything in a french accent, even shit that’s not french or names that the player himself doesn’t pronounce in that way.
Class-Pretend
Dammit. Julian was great, he’ll be missed.

Well, hopefully they get a good replacement for him, I liked his work for the most part. Starting to think I should just cancel my subscription if there isn’t a good replacement in line.

As long as they sort out a replacement I don’t mind this at all.

I thought it was a little peculiar when someone posted a list of media members and Julian popped up on it (or rather, Julien, as the list spelled it)
I wasn’t sure if it was a coincidence or what, I guess now we know
I have access to The Athletic through my NYTimes subscription, but they can’t compete with Sportsnet and TSN with their hockey coverage.
I wish him the best in Ottawa.
Their was a Washington Post article a year or so ago, around the time The Athletic laid off a bunch of people, and it said that the only articles that get any kind of views are their NFL and Premier League stuff.
They dropped a bunch of beat reporters at the time and I wonder if they will keep a reporter here for the Flames.
Help-me-name-my-pup
They’ve never really had good Flames coverage. Hailey was a good writer, but I never felt like I was getting an inside Flames scoop by reading her stuff. Ditto for Julian.
I think it would be incredible if they could pull Steinberg from the Fan, he would be fantastic on the platform.

Damn, that’s too bad. I actually quite enjoyed what he brought to the calgary sports media

Never did subscribe but I remember there being some really cool articles years ago that would always tempt me.

Strange to see this happen for the second consecutive season. Was bummed to see Hailey Salvian leave as she is very talented. Julian didn’t have quite as much personality but he grew on me as time went by.
Would be nice if they could find a more established presence in Calgary rather than shuffling pieces around each year. I know Darren Haynes had previously done some pieces for them, I think he would be the best choice available out there if he is willing to join them on a full-time basis.

It was obvious with both Hailey and McKenzie they just saw Calgary as a stepping stone in their careers IMO. I think we deserve an actual Calgary based writer rather than this revolving door of Eastern Canadians who treat writing about the Flames as their semester abroad

I cancelled a year ago but Julian was quite good.
