That jersey is gorgeous. One of the most under appreciated jerseys
I'll be honest as a redwings fan I know mrazek might be the most inconsistent netminder in the league some games a tennis racket will have a better chance than him while others hell look like a top 10 goalie in the league its really frustrating
Canes fan, long time sub here. This assessment is beyond fair. Appreciate your work my dude!
Greg McKegg. Best name in hockey
Aho is going to play center
Should have traded for O'Reilly
Can you do a video about McDavid and Crosby? Who is the better player?
Darling said on the radio here in Raleigh that he gets nervous at the beginning of games and his composure depends on how the first period goes. He is too weak mentally. I think he has the skills but his head gets in his way.
Nedelijkovic is not ready for the Hurricanes. 2 seasons ago, he wasn't ready for the ECHL. Needs one more strong season like he had last season in Charlotte. I believe the wild card in this entire roster is not on the roster. It's Rod Brind'Amour. Can he put together a roster that will compete or is a bridge coach until either Julien gets fired in Montreal?
I wonder how good a goalie you can get for a 1st? Could be the time to do it with it being a play off team minus goalie
It's hard to believe they have the longest playoff drought in the NHL – 9 seasons. You would think they would have showed up at least a couple of times over that span, but no. I'd love to see them make the playoffs this year but I think it will be close
Thanks for the awesome insight as usual, Shannon. I genuinely appreciate your effort regardless of whether or not it's a topic that compels me.
Regardless, its always a thumbs up from me.
Flip TVR and Fluery; Fluery is the only one on D who can slip through waivers and TVR just got signed to a new, very fair contract. He's quite solid as a #5/6 defender. Faulk would play on the third line (likely on his off side) if he's still here in October.
Totally right about Jordan not being a 1C and he won't be. Right now no one is ready for that role on this team but someone will have to fall on that grenade until a kid (Necas) has developed into it.
Massive gamble in goal. Mike Bales is going to have to work miracles getting at least one of those guys to perform. It will speak volumes if he can pull it off.
Also, I wish they could have picked up Jimmy Howard instead.
Canes fan but hockey fan first – totes agree with this assessment. Centers need to be figured out with and every Faulk/Skinner rumour seems to support the center need with a pick or prospect coming as well. Goaltending is not stable and yes (having not been a Chic fan) agree Darling is the most likely recovering goalie but if they both recover could make the playoffs. Lines/Depthchart look like it came from Roster Resources? As is the Canes don't make the playoffs.
Here's how I see the lines:
Staal Aho Teravainen
Skinner Necas Svechnikov
Ferland Rask Williams
Foegle Zykov/Martinook Mcginn
Hamilton Faulk
Slavin Pesce
De Haan Van Riemsdyk
It has already been confirmed that Necas and Svechnikov will play on the same line and I just cannot see Brind'amour letting Fleury continue in the lineup.
Yup, if the goaltending can have a come back year, they can make it. But still weak and inexperienced down the middle imo. But who knows. Darling could have an amazing comeback year, Hamilton could go on a tear, etc. I really have a hard time with preseason rankings. Just my experience is you have some teams who look like they have no chance before the season, only to come back and make it through 2 rounds in the playoffs.
Then you have team's who look like shoe in's that just have either untimely injuries, or just under perform. That's why I kinda like having my team, (Flames) as underdogs.
NC resident and day 1 Cane fan (hky fan from 2 yrs in Ontario as a kid w military dad) I went to a lot of games yr 2 in Greensboro, easy tickets. And a few playoff games, lol who knew how rare that ticket would get? I love thinking “glass half full”, I’m trying, but my bar is set at winning at least 1 rd, hard to do with a 8th seed or whatever. Great vid, sry I babbled but need G, pray Skinner has 3rd straight decent year, Aho plays anywhere as long as he gets 30 mins lol, wish we had 2 of him.
I got Carolina finishing 11th in the eastern conference.
jordan staal has all the tools to be a #1 center. Hes a big body with good hands and great hockey sense. Not sure about his speed but on paper he should be a bonafied #1 center
Hurricanes fan here: I think a lot depends on how our coaching staff performs. I think it's a giant question mark right now. Hiring Brind'amour wasn't exactly a popular decision with a lot of fans. We wanted a coach with actual experience. We need a first line center as you mentioned and our goalies have to show up. I doubt we will be a playoff team but if the stars align maybe we could pull it off this year.
Aho will be the Center between Ferland and Teravanian. Staal between Skinner and McGinn. Necas between Svechnikov and Williams.
Aho might be moved to 1C. I really hope he can play at the same level at C, he definitely has the hockey IQ for it. I hope the Top 2 lines are Zykov – Aho – Teravainen and Skinner – Necas – Svechnikov.
This team looks odd, their defence looks better. But the offence is stuffy very iffy imo, I completely agree with J.Staal not being a 1st line center. I expect Darling to bounce back, definitely a inspirational ( if you’ve read his story). Anywho in my opinion unless Darling plays out of his mind Carolina is stagnant this year.
First of all you have your defensive pairings wrong 1 Slavin-Pesce like it has been the past 3 seasons splitting them up has proven to be a disaster Justin Faulk played on the second and even third at times, Secondly, while I agree on the Center and Goaltending issue, they did experiment with Aho as #1 Center towards the end of last season and put Zykov ( who has to be in Raleigh this season) on the wing
lol Aho is going to be their 1st center. will be a franchise player with Svech.
Isn't Zycov on a one way deal?
It’s amazing Jeff skinner almost in the nhl ten years never seen playoffs
This team needs wake up
I wonder when the Faulk and Skinner trades will happen….They have 3 Top-4 RD's plus one Top-6 RD in Van Riemsdyk so they gotta trade Faulk for help offensively
After three decent years, Darling was awful last year. Wings fans know Mrazek can be pretty good, or he can be garbage. Seems like a good location for both of them to compete for the starting role. Good luck.
Do you think Faulk, Skinner, and Rask will get traded before or mid-season? What prospects will you trade and draft picks if we can get 1c and another Goalie!!
Aho will probs start the season as the 1st line center with turbo and zykov on the wings or svech. Goaltending is awful so IMO I say we miss the playoffs again and are 2 years away from competing.
Neecash ( Nečas ) LOL 😀
Should have signed Steve mason instead of mrazk
Necash? ugh. I think we'll miss Lindholm. He always seemed dependable and creative play-making. Also think losing Hanifin was huge because he will perhaps blossom into perennial All-star. His leading on the rush a few times had some real excitement, for me anyway…ha.
agreed, why the tiny scrawl? I can't even read the third line right-winger.
Wondering about the nicknames in camp… (A) Ho-ski? Oh right, now i remember…Sea-bass. Chezy? Kovski? Zikes? And what do they call TT? Tevski? Vo-ski? Veiners? so many possibilities with hard names to morph. Any other suggestions? Brock=Ginns Jacob=Slavers Brett=Peschers Justin ( this is easy) = Fockers
I was bummed Darling didn’t do better for Carolina last year. I hope he turns it around in 2018-19 and live up to what we saw in Chicago. Canes are my East team I follow each game. Looks like a culture change going on from the owner all the way down the line.
☺
Turns out it wasn't
