  1. Unfortunately i think that for leafs fans in general, the regular season will be irrelevant unless they bomb it. The playoffs is going to be the determining factor. The leafs always look good during the regular season, its the playoffs where the wheels fall off and the stars disappear.

  2. Under and 5th.
Relying on a goalie who posted a .500 record and a career backup, neither of who played more than 30 games in a season is extremely delusional.

Expecting every player to take a step forward in goal scoring is also laughable. So is thinking Matthews and Nylander are going to show up every game after being paid. Giving the captaincy to a player that doesn’t put in 100% effort every night is also going to affect them.

Relying on two +33 year olds to play top 4 minutes, one injury prone, the other a defensive liability doesn’t mean your defence has improved.

Thinking that contract distractions, not just for Marner and Tavares, but for Knies, McCabe is going to affect their play. They know the organization can’t afford all of them, and watching. Nylander and Matthews take nights off is going to frustrate them.

  3. Hey guys, great show as always. I was thinking that you might have missed an opportunity to take the day off. I think you could have done a very brief intro, and then just replayed the Season Preview from last year. The Leafs really haven't changed that much, so I don't think we'd have noticed…

  4. This is possibly the worst run it back yet, we actually got worse and expect to still win lol.

  5. Leafs do not have a leader. The core 4 have skills but none of them are leaders. None of them are going to play the physical get in your face game and there is no other player on the team that could either. Leafs are built for the regular season. No cup this year and next year they will have more cap problems than this year. More of the same Leaf fans.

  6. Tanev gets injured long term, McCabbe and Marner both get extended for way too much and the leafs miss the playoffs by 1 pt. Oh and Pittsburgh grabs the final playoff spot

  7. So Steve calls Oettinger injury prone, a guy who has been injured twice, the longest being a month, in his entire career. But he wavers at calling Woll injury prone, who has suffered twice as many injuries in a fraction of the time?

Solid point Steve, really flexing that vast hockey knowledge

  8. Reg season doesnt matter…. ONLY playoffs, why i waste my time and money on this garbage team I’ll never understand , the core is the failure and the core is still there….SOOOOOOO basically first round exit again

  9. I'm surprise you guy start the Atlantic with the Leafs…So let's get real, Knies, Woll and McMann development are the key to improving, cause it's the same god damn team as last year minus the unstable play of Samsonov…Plus a change of coach and added Tanev and Hakkanpa. Will it be enough ? Maybe, but that whole Marner situation might become poison if it's not solve. The Atlantic is so unstable it's kinda crazy…I put them second but that defense is full of question so ?!?

  10. What if, instead of every player getting better on the roster. Maybe some don't… then what??

    Steve, right.

  11. "keep tanev with Reilly all season long and play them 22-25 minutes a night"
Do…..are you guys……. Y'all know you're talking about CHRIS Tanev right?? Like…. Constantly injured Chris Tanev.

  12. can i just say this thing about if auston scores 19 less goals were screwed. even if other people dont score. if we scored 19 less goals last year we would have 284 and be 5th in the league lol. we're gonna be ok guys

  13. The way they make up for the goals from bertuzzi not being there is they play better defensively.

If they dont need to win 6-5 , and can win 3-2 or 3-1 they wont need as many goals on the roster.

  14. First of all, I would call the Leafs' regular seasons "great", They have good to very good regular seasons but since they haven't won the division since the invention of divisions, I don't think you can call them great.

I think there is a wide range of possible point totals for this team. Anywhere from about 96 to about 112. The upper limits suggests that they stay healthy, win their share of overtime games and are able to win more games where they were outplayed than lose games where they outplayed the opposition. I haven't loved them in preseason but it's not much of an indicator of how the season will go. I would predict second or third and around 100-105 points. Boston needs to resolve the goaltending situation or else they could drop down to fourth. Not sure what the Stamkos-less Lightning will be like, but as long as Vasi is healthy you can't bet against them. And is Detroit going to have a more consistent season?

Montreal, Ottawa and Buffalo would have to make uncharacteristic improvements to feature in the top four or five.

  15. We all thought Crosby and Letang had compromised careers almost ten years ago. Injury prone players can lose that label…. but it takes about 5 to 10 years :/
I can tell you I feel it right now as a Habs fan…. Every time Dach gets on the ice I become religious. I'm basically just waiting for him to get destroyed. I don't want to it's just… We learn by repetition and that guy is either the unluckiest player alive or straight up made of paper.

  16. Everyone talks about Yushkevich as the last great RHD for the Leafs, but Robert Svehla was a righty as well, and he was every bit as good if not better. No one thinks of him that way because he only played one season here before leaving, but he shouldn't be ignored. At the very least, I think he was still at least equal with Tanev's resume.

  17. i'm still confused why they told martin jones to kick rocks and are going with murray as the third.

  18. Is Hakkenpa basically the Leafs deadline add on D? They always go after the big 3rd pair and pay too much for him so now he's already in house 🤷‍♂️.

  19. I think you're overthinking it and it deludes you into some overreaching assumptions. Is the goaltending situation in any way secure? Not really. And also I wouldn't be so high on Knies and Macman

  20. I enjoy how the team that hasn't grown linearly at all will have all of their players who are young improve despite them not showing previous signs of all being 20 goal guys 😂. AM34 and Willy regress this team is in trouble.

  21. You guys are about to see why canucks bought out oel. He's only as good as the team infront of him

  22. As a rangers fan I feel like if Toronto goes to the second round in the playoffs this season it’s gonna feel like a Stanley cup celebration for the fans and the city 😂😂😂😂😂 but I wouldn’t count them out the first round I mean they took the bruins to 7 games and lost by one goal so you never know the outcome when postseason comes around plus if the bruins don’t get swayman signed for all we know they can start being the better team in the division along with the panthers

  23. I've been watching Steve since before the 2018 season ..I was there when Tavares signed with the Leafs…I was at the LFRs when they lost to the Caps in round one…man this Liligren guy has just been like the outsider looking in. It's like the one constant (besides losing in round one)

  24. I just bought tickets to the home opener against the Pens on HNIC. Go Leafs Go! Never been to a home opener before. I'm excited for the place to be rockin! Also excited to finally get to see Sid the Middle Aged Man in person after all these years😆

  25. 10/3 Post-game predictions:

Liljegren gets moved to the Kings
    Kampf and Jarnkrok get dumped (Total: 3 + 2.4 + 2.1 = 7.5MM)

    Lorentz – 1.1MM x 2
    Pacioretty – 1.75MM x 1

    Lineup:
    Knies/Matthews/Marner
    McMann/Nylander/Domi
    Pacioretty/Tavares/Robertson
    Dewar/Lorentz/Reaves(Holmberg)

    Rielly/Tanev
    OEL/McCabe
    Benoit/Timmins
    Rifai

    Woll
    Stolarz
    Murray

    PK1:
    Matthews/Marner
    McCabe/Tanev

    PK2:
    Dewar/Lorentz(Holmberg)
    OEL/Benoit

  26. Nylander had a good year for a contract. Does well under pressure. Marner contract year. Great talent but does not perform well under pressure. New coach, defensive two way play expectation. Less offence overall means less points for Marner this year. No stacking of the top two lines.
