2nd year of a 7 year deal and the guy is already on waivers. Big yikes, also interesting that gauthier made the club over Fasching

So we have our final roster:

    Duclair-Horvat-Barzal

    Tsyplakov-Nelson-Palmieri

    Lee-Pageau-Holmstrom

    MacLean-Cizikas-Gauthier/Wahlstrom

    Pelech-Pulock

    Romanov-Dobson

    Reilly-Mayfield

    Cholowski

    Sorokin

    Varlamov

I’m sure Engvall will be back up this year at some point.  Good for them for making the tough choice despite contract.

It’s ruthless but it’s the exact right decision. Lou is right when he said (like 5 minutes ago lol) that Engvall got his spot on the 2nd line stolen by Tsyplakov and he’s not physical enough for the 4th line.

Fasching going down over Gauthier makes a little sense because he’s still injured at the moment but I’d bet you see him later in the season, at least for a game or two.

Bolduc being sent down and Cholowski staying is good. I think Bolduc isn’t a bad defenseman but he’s very green and needs playing time they can’t give him at the NHL level.

  5. Wow. Good move now. Bad moves got us here, but good on Lou to not let that influence the future

I must be the only one who doesn’t mind having Engvall as a 1.85 million depth option, deployable at any time, when the cap is going up to ~94 million dollars next year.

If anyone in the top six gets hurt, we aren’t completely fucked and now have a speed option who we can plug in at anytime.

This isn’t as bad as everyone is saying. Most teams wish they had a reason to waive a player with the talent Engvall has.

The cap is probably going to be pushing $110 million by the end of Engvall’s deal. Are we really going to be bitching about what will be the equivalent of 1.6% of the cap?

I get downvoted every time I mention how awful that contract is. The dude sucks

    Did he wave back?

In all seriousness, this is a very weird situation. Engvall is definitely an NHL caliber player, he is just the exact opposite of what Roy wants in a bottom 6 winger.

At the end of the day, giving him 3 or 4 years instead of 7 would just make him a more expensive depth option at this point. He’s still have a year or two too many and too high an AAV to get claimed. Just a case of him being signed to play in the system of a coach that got fired a half year into the contact and got replaced by a coach that hates his game. Oh well.
