  1. Id be fine giving more money for fewer years

I don’t want to pay this much when he’s almost 40

  2. 77Columbus

Although I understand the cap implications I can’t imagine not trying to get the most money possible out of a team owned by Dolan.

  3. I totally get Igor wanting to make as much money as he can, while he can, but this is a fair deal and well above market. Why hamstring the teams ability to build around you?

  4. AlboutThatActionBoss

This will get very interesting lol. Hamstringing the organization is a way to lose fans.

  5. KorbanDallas90

I’m telling you all he’s not worth it and he’s going to be a huge pain later on.

  6. NYdude777

Not everyone is Jalen Brunson and actually wants to win

  7. Honestly if he is rejecting that deal Drury should be looking to trade him. Better to get something now than to let him walk for free after the season.

  8. The Rangers leaked this like they did Trouba enforcing his NMC as he said he wasn’t negotiating in season.

People are mad at the player for seeking what he thinks he deserves. Bettman created the system which has turned fans against talent. The cap has only gone up 6M since 2021. It was made to break teams by enforcing artificial parity.

I’ll never say that someone doesn’t deserve what they get. You wouldn’t turn down a pay raise at your job to keep someone from being laid off, so why expect him and others to do the same? He’ll get it somewhere. New York made this bed by offering bad deals to Trouba and Zibanejad years ago.

  9. jkman61494

Shestys agent knows he has the Rangers by the nargles based on how they are built, the lack of a goalie pipeline and the fact this team cannot do a rebuild even if we traded him

  10. ColdYellowGatorade

They should look into trading him if that’s the case. He alone won’t win us the cup. Amazing goalie but they would be screwed.

  11. If a hockey player living in New York City makes $11 million a year, a significant portion of their earnings will go toward taxes, agents’ fees, and other expenses. Here’s a rough breakdown of how much they might actually keep:

    1. Federal Income Tax:

    • In the U.S., the federal tax rate for high-income earners can be up to 37%.
    • On $11 million, federal taxes could be around $4.07 million.

    2. State and Local Taxes (New York City):

    • New York State has a top income tax rate of 10.9% for high earners.
    • New York City adds an additional 3.876%.
    • Combined, state and local taxes would be approximately 14.776%.
    • This would amount to about $1.63 million.

    3. Agent’s Fee:

    • Sports agents typically take about 3%–5% of a player’s salary.
    • If we assume a 4% agent fee, that would be $440,000.

    4. Jock Taxes:

    • Hockey players also have to pay taxes in other states where they play games. These are known as “jock taxes.” The actual amount will vary based on their schedule, but let’s estimate an additional 1.5%.
    • That would amount to about $165,000.

    5. Other Deductions:

    • There may be other deductions, such as for retirement plans, insurance, and other personal expenses, but these are harder to estimate without more specific details.

    Estimated Take-Home:

    After these deductions:

    • Federal Tax: $4.07 million
    • State & Local Tax: $1.63 million
    • Agent Fee: $440,000
    • Jock Taxes: $165,000

    Total deductions: $6.31 million

    Remaining take-home pay: $4.69 million

The Jock Taxes and state and local taxes won’t overlap so it might be a bit less. When Igor is paying a tax in another state he won’t be paying the NYC and NY tax.

So, after taxes, agent fees, and other expenses, a hockey player making $11 million a year in NYC might keep around $4.7 million. Keep in mind, the specific details of their tax planning and deductions could affect this amount.

  12. TreeFugger69420

I’m sorry, but no goalie is worth that much. Drury handing out blank checks scares the fuck out of me

  13. MyNameIsLegend

That’s fine. It’s likely they’re just haggling over that last $500K or so and he’ll lock in at $11.5M by tomorrow I hope.

  14. TernoftheArctic

Offer him 8 and 92. If he don’t take that. You probably gotta trade

  15. TheIncredibleHork

Well, Swayman rejected (allegedly) $8m for 8yrs and took $8.25m for 8yrs.

Maybe Igor just needs that extra $250k per to make it happen? I could deal with it being $500k per.

Either way I still think it’s fair, and I still don’t see us saying no to him unless it pushes well beyond $12m per.

  16. IHSCOUTII1973

I’ve never been one of these guys but at a certain point you have to wonder if certain players prioritize salaries over team success. Very hard to build a successful team these days off of such a huge goalie contract. The other bad/underperforming contracts on this team don’t make it any easier.

Is Igor the best goalie in the NHL? Yes. Is he $4M better than, say, Swayman? No.

  17. PriorAcanthaceae5694

apparently he wants shorter term at the same AAV, or something close that still makes him highest paid.

  18. mikereddittoday

IGOR PLEASE. I JUST BOUGHT UR AUTH SWEATER 😭😭😭😭😭

  19. Nyrfan2017

He must like facing 40-50 shots a night cause anything more . They won’t be able to put a team infront of him… maybe is another issue and not money

  20. LemonHayes13

The sicko part of me genuinely wants to see this team without Igor. Maybe it’ll finally open the eyes of the front office and make them realize there other ways to build a team outside of relying on and riding the coattails of one of the best goalies in the world…. As if 20 years of that not working wasn’t enough

    Edit: re-worded

  21. -TheSkyAboveThePort

If we can’t build a cup winner with him at below value, how  can  we possibly do it at over twice his current contract?

How many more goals is he saving than an 8M dollar goalie? Everyone loves Igor, and rightly so, but there has to be an upper limit on what you pay a goalie. Especially one that is coming off a career lowest s% and high GAA

  22. NicholasDeOrio

« He wants his max worth. And good for him »

If Igor makes the Rangers pay him anywhere north of 10M AAV, he won’t be remembered the way Lundqvist was. With Hank it’s always discontent that the Rangers couldn’t get him that cup. Igor’s career will be defined by whether he finishes with a cup, otherwise his contract will be blamed for 6-10 years of mediocrity. I am not « happy » one particular player is getting paid an absurd amount of money… I am invested in the name on the front, not the name on the back.

  23. rvbcaboose1018

I’m more interested in how far apart they are.

If 11.5 AAV gets it done, just do it. If it’s more than 12, I totally get why we’d hesitate.

  24. 0ddmanrush

What does a deal look like with Shesterkin going to the Flames and Wolf coming to the Rangers?

Flames have multiple 1st and 2nd round picks this year and multiple 1sts next year.

For what it’s worth, Rangers have 0 2nd round picks and 0 4th round picks for the next 3 years.

    What other pieces?

  25. I_Am_No_One_123

No way I’d pay that for a goalie. It’s been proven you can get by with « meh » net minder. I’d rather invest in a solid defense pairing that can provide offense and defense.

  26. MrSpaceKook

If he wants 12+ you move him and don’t think twice about it. 11 is absolutely fair if you still want to be able to build a winning team.

  27. Laymans_Terms19

Hey be optimistic maybe he turned it down because he thinks that’s too much.

  28. ontheru171

This sub really is stuck in the pandemic stagnating cap years lol.

The same crying will happen when Laffy is gonna get a huge payday.

The cap is rising a lot in the coming years.

Draisaitl just signed for 14/year and McDavid will probably go towards 16/year

Of course the best goalie in the league is gonna sign a record breaking deal

  29. Let him walk. We tried the pay all the money to the goalie route.

  30. Zero-jiggler

Well, we’re fucked. If he walks, we pretty much immediately go into a soft rebuild. This team is going absolutely NOWHERE in the playoffs without him. He’s single handedly carried the Rangers sorry asses for years now and we expect the best goalie in the world to take a pay cut? Why? What has this team shown to make him take such a leap of faith? Do we expect him to believe in Trouba and Zibanejad to win him a cup?

Letting him walk is slamming the window shut immediately. He’s not someone you can just replace and expect it to be fine. We can’t roll with 39 year old Quick as starter, and Garand as of now is a backup at best.

He deserves the money. And the Rangers pretty much have to pay him. But the flaws of this roster’s construction are just going to become more apparent. And with all the NMCs that are handed out like candy around here, it’s not gonna be an easy fix.

  31. Last 3 years we’ve been paying $11.6 million per year to Trouba and Goodrow. I think we’ll live paying $12 million to Shesterkin.

  32. Mr-Dicklesworth

Whatever. I’m pretty indifferent on paying a goalie the absolute max and crippling us financially forever. It’s always been the rangers motto and it’s never worked out for them.

Considering Vegas, Colorado and St Louis all won with random journeymen goalies making nothing; I’d rather they bolster up the scoring depth and get an actual superstar 1RW

  33. Well hopefully he’s worth it because there’s going to be no money left to put some good D in front of him.

  34. Nyrfan2017

Reading some comments here I’m pretty sure a large chunk of fan base has no clue why there is a salary cap. How it works or doesn’t even sound like some people know there is a cap
